Newb_ocer Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 Well i made the full clear window case it was satifactory but now i want the real deal i want to mount the plexi glass in case's side anyone mounting ideas? i remember seeing a case that someone on this forum had done it themself and there used to be a guide or may be that was occc but err... i think it was devilmb not sure. And What type of paint should i use for painting skeleton of case and such and out sides if there is anyway to paint the outside of the case that would be wicked. Also trying to find a way to paint plastic that wouldnt flake off 2 hours later. If anyone could direct me in some of this stuff specially on the window mod i will be putting on my side, or paints that stick to plastic and metal very well That would be a great help. And any ideas about how to keep the plexi glass in the side of the case side? i see premade ones use black tubing or something o.O. I have a dremel so that will come in handy
kobalt Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 (edited) This is a good place for window things(link 1) and for outside the case there's case wraps, they look awsome (link 2) Paint,Krylon is good on plastics, there's a new kind that bonds at molecular level to plastic (no flaky) dont remember the name right now maybe someone can help <_< http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/frozencpu/index.html http://www.casecooler.com/caartcawr.html Edited August 1, 2003 by kobalt
Gigashadow Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 If you base scuff the plastic lightly with some 600 grit sand paper then clean it good and base coat it a few times with a good grey primer and then after you put on the final color soat put a few coats of Automotive ENGINE enamal and let it cure for about a week it will be like a rock and it won't chip or flake. I use Automotive pain on all my customers cases and frames, I never use anything but. I would also suggest not using enamel based for the under coats it's hard to smooth out when your wet sanding, flat colors are the easiest to keep smooth, Use the enamel for the final clear coats. If your looking for good Automotive paint just go to the local autopaint store. ALSO for your own knowledge if you want a specific color and you can't find that color anywhere or want to match some paint go to your local automotive paint store and get it matched, also most automotive paint stores will put the paint right in a spray can for you. Good Luck. As for the window being attatched you could use a few things I have used Hot glue or Epoxy. The hot glue works great and is cheap, but looks kind of funked up if your not carefull with it. The Epoxy works great is alittle more expensive but dries clear. I have also used chrome plated pop rivets, that look sweet on an all black paint job, you can view the rivets here Hot Wheels Mod by Nuclear Pc
sYstEmATiC Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 or you could drill holes and use the 2 piece plastic rivets like the chenming cases use... or just use steel rivets.
skibar350 Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 (edited) For the window if you could find someone that can draw or stincil good or find a copy of something traced (stinciled) with the details outlined you could acid etch it. You go to a craft store and get a liquid acid etch, it is a brown color and made for plastic. I used to do plastic work and the stuff works great if you leave it on for the right amount of time. You can tell because you look through the other side of the clear plastic. It comes with a brush on the lid on some of the bottles and if not you can get a brush... You just brush it on and let it sit until it's deep enough and rinse it off. It looks cool depending on the design and it is still clear looking. I'm working on a picture right now.... Gigashadow Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 No offence but the plastic and steel rivets are preaty ugly. The chrome realy stands out. But hey everyone has there own preference.
