qtzar Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Hi, I have just purchased my first DFI Motherboard and I have an unusual problem. I also purchased 4 x 1Gb PC400 memory sticks and when they are all installed in the machine both the bios post screen and MS Windows only report 2.75Gb of ram. CPU-Z reports all 4Gb of ram being present. I specifically need to get the 4Gb visible to the machine as I'm running some extreamly memory intensive applications. Any help would be appreciated. qtzar Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Thanks for the pointer, While I couldn't find that exact setting in the bios I did two settings, one for h/w memory remapping and one for s/w memory remapping. They were set to disabled so I have set them to enabled. The POST is now showing 3.5Gb ram but WinXP is still showing 2.75Gb Ram. Not sure what went wrong there. I'll try clearing the bios, starting with optimised defaults and just a hardware memory remap enabled, see what happens. Still why did the POST only show 3.5Gb and not 4gb. ExtraPickles Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 I read in another post by Acegoober (I think) that this is a limitation of WinXP 32 bit I think. It uses .5 gig for addressing space. Greenbarr0n Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 XP x64bit version is the only XP that supports 4G of Ram ATM, 3.5G is as much as x64 will identify. I have read that 4G of memory is tough to get working with x64 also, not to mention the peformance penalty for using 4 Dimm slots on an NF4 board. If you really need 4G of Ram, you might need a different mainboard, such as the server/workstation class boards that support 8G Ram with Server 2003. CPUz shows 3gb The 2 GB is most likely the virtual memory that a default Windows userland process can see (unless you shift the username/kernel barrier), not physical memory. At this time it is again a "Beta 1 Release", and nothing has been put in stone. We will know more next Summer when Beta 2 is released.
