nF4 Memory Advice (updated 14/11/06)

Recommended Posts

All the DDR600 sets on that list aren't sold anymore. Any suggestions as to a set that could, conceivibly, come close to DDR600 with a week or so of tweaking the settings?

I was considering to buy a new pair of memory modules to run in dual channel on DFI Ultra-D and Expert...

I do plan to overclock in the near future, but I would certainly like a good performing memory at 200MHz until I do, one that can do 2-2-2 1T and is known to be compatible and working well with the DFIs...

I have the Twinmos UTT-BH5 dimms, but they do not appear very stable...recently they even gave me errors on memtest 5 with 2,5-3-3-8 1T...so I keep then on 2T..

2-2-2-6/8 @2.8vdimm did NOT cause memtest to err but was extremely unstable in Windows...so I need a memory guarranteed to run at its rate speed and timings...

I don't want to buy a very expensive pair (2x512mb), though...I would be willing to pay ~140-160 Euros for them at most...

Which one would you recomment (model and brand)?

I was considering Crucial Ballistix or Geil Ultra-X 3200...(what does "discontinued" mean exactly next to Geil's memory in the guide - that they are somewhat difficult to find because they are not being produced anymore or sth else? )

Thasp

Do you really need 300Mhz memory?

2x1GB is more of an advantage and some can go to 280Mhz, close enough?

vgiozo Yes you are right about discontinued.

Something for you to try with your memory.

Make sure that all 4 power connectors are plugged into the board

# 24pin ATX connector.

# 4pin +12v P4 connector, near the ATX connector.

# Floppy power connector, under the CPU socket.

# Hard drive power connector, on top the chipset fan.

Plug your GFX card in the PCIe slot

# Make sure it is inserted correctly into the slot.

# Connect any power cables to it if one is required.

Clear your CMOS for 10 minutes

# Remove the power cord from the back of the power supply.

# Move the CMOS jumper to the clear position and leave it there for 10mins.

# Make sure you move it back to the save position after.

Insert the memory into the Orange slots

Power your PC and enter the BIOS

What about getting a PC4000 2x1Gb kit?

All power connectors have been properly connected to the board...

I had cleared CMOS for 3 hours when I set up the machine but I can try again...

...thanks for the recommended bios settings...

I have found Geil Ultra-X modules in Greece that I could buy at 69€ each...you think I should look elsewhere?

Pc4000 memory, especially good branded memory is quite expensive I think...even if I do get the money I think it may be a waste...I have certain doubts...

I wanna upgrade my current Corsair to something new. Think of getting the GSKILL F1-4000USU2-2GBHZ PC4000 (2 X 1GB) , is this the right choice ? Or there is another one near the price range that u guys recommend ?

Hello,

Depends, where will you be buying the memory from?

link to the website and we can have a look.

But the G.skill kit is a good choice.

Hi what do you thing about the OCZ Special Ops Edition 2x1Gb kits. I have looked around and am deciding either them it or the OCZ PC4000 Platinum EB 2GB Kit or TEAM Xtreem PC4000 Cronus I/A 3-3-2-8 2GB DDR Kit [2x1024MB] DDR500, PC4000 TXDR2048M500HC3DC-I ram kits. I am not really into overclocking, well maybe just a little but nothing extreem, any suggestions would be greatful.

thanks

Scott.

@Sharp

The timings you posted do indeed work fine with my 1A4T Utt-BH5 memory at vdimm 2.8

...thanks a lot...

I ran memtest, snm 1.8.1 and prime (300mb of memory for each prime instance) and it passed with flying colours...

If I moved this setup to a DFI Expert would it work, or are there some timings I should loosen (e.g. Drive Strength) ?

Thanks a lot...

Spoonz

Both are excellent choices and will be good for a decent 250Mhz OC.

vgiozo

They should work with the expert board.
