THunDA Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Did you make sure you changed to boot device in bios to your correct hard drive? This may sound weird.. But if you set the correct hard drive in bios to boot to and leave the windows cd in your cd drive.. Then boot up but do not press any key to boot to cd.. Does windows load ? -CsA-TAZ Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 all you can do is check ur cd rom is working and the disc is clean, if you have a floppy drive may be a win98 boot up disc will get you started, but just guessing sry! superflyguy Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Try a barts-pe cd boot. That'll let you know if it's hardware.
etriky Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 OK, I had the boot order set at Removable, CDROM, harddisk. I changed it to harddisk, harddisk, harddisk. And it booted from the harddisk. I set it back and it the error hasn't come back. Weird.

What I was getting at.. is when you install windows its good to disconnect all other hard drives and only leave the one hooked up that your installing windows on.. Sometimes when you have mulitple drives hooked up windows messes up the mbr or what ever its called..
Torch Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 You installed XP on Satadrive, but windows is really silly. Satas are never Drive C/: when your installing together with Patas. So windows installed Xp on Sata and the NTLDR on Drive C/: the Patadrive.

So windows installed Xp on Sata and the NTLDR on Drive C/: the Patadrive. So the only way around this is to reinstall windows again without connecting the PATA drives i presume....? Will this cause problems when i reconnect the PATA drive after i have installed Windows? I have all my Backup files in this drive and cannot afford to have it NOT recognised later when connected to the mobo after windows installation. Also do i have to disconnect the other 2 SATA drives that i have for just Movies and Video Editing while i am installing windows again or can i leave it connected to the mobo during windows installation? Thanks in advance guys.
RGone Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 Unless a windows guru (not me) can help then what I write is likely true for most home users. So the only way around this is to reinstall windows again without connecting the PATA drives i presume....? Will this cause problems when i reconnect the PATA drive after i have installed Windows? Yes reload. It might still cause problems with the ntloader on that PATA drive you had hooked up when install to the sata drive. I always use third party software to make any other drive NOT the boot drive entirely Extended/Logical for any partition on other drives and I ALWAYS unhook any drive not doing the booting when I load any WinXP o/s. Did I say WinXP o/s ;well this neat feature of M$ o/s has been there since 98SE as well. A good while in other words and why I never had much trouble with WinXP and multiple drives since I was already un-hooking extra drives when loading o/s as far back as 98SE. RGone...
