Chipset fan breaking down?

Recommended Posts

I've been running with the Ultra-D since the release of the card and I'm very, very satisfied with it. Rock stable and great options for overclocking.

As of now though it seems my chipset fan is breaking down. For every day that goes it can handle less RPM without making really loud and odd noises. When this started occuring in the beginning of august I couldn't have the chipsetfan jacked into the motherboards since it was automatically going up to around 6000 rpm, so I jacked into the fancontroller and lowered it to 5800 rpm and it was all good. As the days have gone by it's getting worse it seems, since now it can barely handle 5000 rpm without making the really loud noise. I've got no idea on what to do, so please help me out here. Is it breaking down or could there be something else going on?

Many users are swapping over to one similar to this one. Even thinking of such for myself just as a 'look and see' sort of thing. http://www.jab-tech.com/customer/product.p...&cat=223&page=1

Looks good. http://forums.overclockersclub.com/DFI_NF4...nt_img-424.html

RGone...

Are there any know clearance issues with his x800 XL or my x850 XT? I've been getting some strange noises at high rpms as well, so you've got me interested. I'd understand if you weren't sure, but I figured I'd ask. Thanks in advance.

A lot of peopel have also used Vantec Iceberqs. They work pretty nicely. If you want a little more, get the Iceberq4. Iceberq4 Pro will NOT fit though. For the regular Iceberq4, while the holes don't line up exactly, the pins can go slightly slanted, and so I know people who have drilled new holes, and I know people who haven't (me + a few others).

You will have to dremel a small (very small) bit of copper for clearance with a clock crystal. Other than that, the fan works great!
