noktekniq Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 so i didn't get the package on friday since i missed it while i was at school. decided to get a ride to fedex station up in southsf to pick up the package. which as a pain in the butt because fedex driver and the station staff decided to not give me the package until i yelled at them. but enough with that. so when i got home it was late and i decided to build on the second day. saturday- started off by opening every single box and then getting a spot in the house where i had lots of space to do my work. got the case ready. installed the modstream psu into the case first. got the mobo out of the dfi retail box. settled it on the plastic anti-static thing, then got out the cpu, artic silver, pair of non-powdered gloves, and the huge xp90. put the chip on the socket. replaced the retention bracket with the provided on by thermalright. put on the gloves, dropped a bit of artic silver on the cpu, spread it out by rubbing it with my fingertip, then smuged it with xp90 on top, got the clips to go on. then installed the clips and the panaflo fan. screwed the mobo into the case, got the optical drives and harddrives ready. plugged everything in. and oh shoot. remembered to put int he ram at the last second and then put on the huge 7800gt. i realized the 7800gt card blocks the whole mobo fan which was kinda hard to get rid of but owell. final checks... turned on pc. installed xp home then sp2, then drivers. check cpuz and realized the mobo is readin the cpu all wrong. forgot i had to flash the mobo to get the right readings. then some benchmark programs like 3dmark and stuff. runned mark05 got around 7500 score. got the camera cord pluged in and software installed so i can upload some pictures in a bit of the whole process. next step overclock! which will be a pain in the butt since i tried it for about 20 mins which wasn't that successful without heavy tuning. Guest nomad Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 I have found (as have many others) that the best way to apply AS5, is to smear some on both the CPU and the heatsink and then rub it off with a lint-free cloth. Then put CPU in the socket and apply about a grain of rice worth of AS5 on the chip. Then apply the HS and give it a bit of rotation back and forth, not much but alittle. Turn on your computer and give it periods under load and then turn off for cool down. This helps with curing. A good application will usually lose about 3 degrees after it has cured for about 100-200 hours. Good luck with the OC!! diehrd Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Follow the directions for AS5 .. You are supposed to smear some on the base of the heat sink using plastic wrap . . Then wipe with a lint free cloth . . http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_...ctions_big2.htm
