memory question

Recommended Posts

Thanks in Advance,

I am in the process of upgrading my pc. I previously had a:

P4 3.2e

Intel D865glc mobo

6800gt 2 GB Kingston

Value Ram KVR400X64C3AK2.

I have upgraded to

DFI LANPARTY Ultra-D

3700 San Diego

7800GT

My question is: should I stick with this ram or should I upgrade. If I upgrade I will be selling the RAM on eBay and I won’t have too much more money to invest for a while. Would I be better served to go with less ram (1GB) of something like:

OCZ Gold Revision 2 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 500 (PC 4000)

or stick with 2GB of the value ram.

I don’t plan on overclocking right away but would like to eventually. I just don’t want to have my new pc slowed way down by ram if that would happen with what I currently have.

Please feel free to make other recommendations on RAM if the OCZ is over/under kill.

Thanks again.

Welcome to the street! I think the benefits of 2 gigs (some cheap ram at loose timings) will outweigh 1 gig (some really good ram at tight timings). Really depends on what you do with your computer, and if you will ever use more than 1 gig. You will have an easier time getting the ocz to work, in comparison to the kingston's, but with some patience, I think you could do it. My opinion of course. Try the 1 gig of kingston that you have. If you can get them to work good, then I would add another gig of that same stuff.
