jjyoung Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 I just built a new system, and I have a Sound Blaster Audigy (the original, not 2) from my old system. I was wondering whether it would be better to use my sound blaster audigy or whether the onboard sound is better? Thanks. danegerous Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 onboard sound sucks compared to anything creative labs. read the review at anandtech (sorry lost the link), they say the onboard could have been way better. based on my experience from the nf3 board i just had, creative all the way. -CsA-TAZ Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 I got interference with my on board so I took it out and found an old SB 5.1 live card in there and is now fine, try it first!
Smoken Joe Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 Onboard sound is never going to be better than a good card. (now that sanddtorm is history)

Erekosse Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 Onboard sound on the SLI-DR actually got a pretty decent review from Anandtech, but I'd still go with the sound card. Unless you've got a hardware audio chip (some of MSI's boards have a Creative audio chip on the MOBO), the onboard sound will use more MOBO resources to generally achieve lower quality... Ozymandias Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 Use the Audigy and follow the guide here. If you want, you can also "update" the drivers using this guide. Both of these greatly improve audio quality beyond Creative's official Audigy drivers.
