Audigy 2 ZS Problem

Hello all. I just finished building a new system, and everything is working perfectly with the exception of my Audigy 2 ZS that I bought off Newegg (OEM version). I situated it in the 2nd PCI slot on the motherboard and changed the BIOS as recommended (turned off AC'97 audio, turned off RAID, etc.) I also do not have the onbard audio module connected.

 

The problem is, my soundcard is not recognized by the computer, even by the BIOS. In the "devices" screen right during POST, my audio card is not listed. There isn't even a "possible device" such as "Multimedia Controller" etc. The card is in place perfectly, but it does not seem to be recognized.

 

I want to assume that there is some sort of compatibility issue as I'd hate to find out that I got a bad card. Is there any sort of BIOS fix I can do, or any alternative BIOS that may fix this? Also, perhaps the soundcard isn't listed in the POST because there isn't enough screen space? Am I able to pause/scroll through the devices listed there?

I had to remove the drivers with driver cleaner 3 before the audigy worked tight. I ended up removing all the nvidia drivers and reinstalling them. I had to try a couple diffrent versions of the driver before it played well with the other programs. Next time I wont even bother trying out on board sound.

Thanks, but I can't even get my computer to recognize it, let alone Windows. In the device manager, nothing appears. It seems that the BIOS doesn't even see it in the PCI slot.

Hello,

 

Clear your CMOS for 10 minutes. (make sure the pc is off + power cable remove from PSU).

 

Also make sure the card is inserted correctly into the PCI slot.

I have the same card. Put it in the bottom PCI slot and see what you get. My brother had issues with his in any slot but the bottom. Dont know why but i always put mine there anyhow and have not had a problem.

Thanks for all the help! I cleared the CMOS but the card still didn't work. I would've originally tried another PCI slot, but my system is water-cooled and one of the radiator screws doesn't give enough clearance for the card in the bottom PCI slot. I decided that I really had no choice, so I did my best to jam it in there and, believe it or not, it works!!

 

Although the card is pretty much so tight that it's basically bending, it works nevertheless. I don't know why the 2nd PCI slot doesn't recognize the card. Perhaps the board is bad? Can certain PCI slots become damaged?

 

Anyway, thanks for all the help. The only question now is, should I get an RMA for the mobo?

Could be bad, anything is possible.

Dust in the slot or bad soldering.

 

Would you ever need another PCI slot?

 

Test the PCI slot with another PCI device, like a network card.

Should it still not work then it may be faulty.

 

If it was my board, I would RMA it.

FWIW, my Audigy2 ZS is in the top PCI slot (interferes with power cables in the lower slot in my P-180.)

 

It works fine.
