Cythrawl Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 In Calf, theres a new bill that still needs to be signed by Ahhnold thats going to be holding games retailers responisble for selling Rated Games to minors, See here: http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/09/09/news_6132907.html And they (the Retailers) are trying to get Ahhnold to veto it http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/articles.pl?show=798 I personally think that YES, Retailers should be held accountable for selling a game like say GTA to say an 8yr old. In Europe they get fined if they are caught doing so, so why the hell should it be different over here??? I would also hold the parents accountable for buying a game like GTA for 8-yr old Jimmy's Birthday Present too. Thats just pure ignorance. Im pretty sure that the parents of Jimmy would not go out and buy the latest Girls Gone Wild DVD for his 8th birthday, so why should it be any different with games? Everybody knows that games are no longer the cutsey Mario type things they used to be. God knows the media have made such a stink about violent games in the past, that any parent that thinks they are still mario type games should be shot, then slapped and in that order... charlie22911 Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 i agree, since i just turned 17 i dont care if they pass it now . but i disagree with them trying to remove certain games from stores like the GTA games and doomIII. VectorTensor Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 If little jimmy isnt playing GTA at home, i bet hes playing it over at his buddy little frankies house..... Theres no way for parents to stop kids from this stuff.. I remember when i was in 5th grade me and my buddies had like 50 copys of hustler in his attick, cant remember where we got them but we did.. If theres a will theres a way... I say buy the game for jimmy and play it with him, then he will associate the game to good old family time instead of getting lost in his own world at frankies house and going out and killing cops.. :shake:
Cythrawl Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 Also the Hot Coffee thig. Dont you think that its stupid that a game that promotes violence, stealing, drug running, gang warfare, etc etc etc is fine and dandy, but as soon as someone releases a simulated . patch for it the country goes wild???? So is Violence, stealing, drug running, gang war, beating up old ladies, etc is OK and . is not?? Done get me wrong, but a lot of people dont die while having ., but a lot of people die if you run them over with an 18-wheeler (which is fun I might add)! The whole debate about Hot Coffee is so retarded. The game is rated M for Mature... Little Jimmy should not be playing it in the first place, and even if he is his parents should be responsible for what he downloads etc too.. Thats not being responsible... Yes Kids will always find a way, but 90% of the time they end up being caught by thier parents sooner or later (i did, and everyone else I knew did also) Kids like to tattle tale which is why they 90% always get caught, and little Jimmy should be punished for his wrong doings. VectorTensor Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 This violence on film and in the media is nothing new... Look at the three stoogies, John Wayne movies, Warner Brothers Cartoons etc... Its all about how you raise your children not by how your children raise you............... Cythrawl Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 Thats totally correct, and how I would handle it is that if I saw my little boy playing GTA and/Or watching Faces of deat/Girls gone wild, they would be taken away (or the privilage to use the meida players/Computer/Console/whatever). But if I didnt allow that stuff into the house in the first place or was out of kids reach then there will not be an issue, as I am policing my kids. Which is what every parent should do. Look at the respect kids have these days for thier elders... NONE... Zip... Nada. Look at how many kids degrqade into social degenerates... whos to blame?? The Parents, the System,... Hell even schools nowadays cannot displine children. When I was at school if you did something really bad you would not only get expelled, but also would have to see the headteacher for some form of punishment be it a corporal or adcademic punsihment. I got the slipper/cane a couple of times at school, and did it psycologicaly scar me? No. But I knew if I did that crap again, I would know about it. so I never did it again. That had been working for hundreds and hundreds of years and noone batted an eyelid. But now you get all these tree hugging hippie so called Psycologists who say that its bad to disipline the children. Really when was the last time that a "time-out" really worked??? and look at them now.. Hanging round in gangs on the street corners, asking people for cigerettes and beer. Shouting callous names to adults and crap. This stuff needs to stop, and it needs to start at home for one.
Angry_Games Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 police your own children don't use lame excuses like 'he will just do it at his friend's house' POLICE YOUR OWN CHILDRED before (or like currently) the government will begin doing it for you... Guest DrAgO Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 i dont see the big deal with 'make beleive' entertainment.. the only thing people should restrict to minors are . vids, but games? come on need to see what others imagine! Frallan Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 Hmmm... to answer the OT Yes... And to answer the Violence vs. . issue I believe that a great part of the U.S is totally off the rockers since they don't react to baseball bat beatings but do react to som pixeled humping (without details)... Then the he will do it anyway I might just as well let him do it at home. Thats one way but then that should also be restricted. A parent is Always responsible for his/her children. So if U want to play GTA w. your kids fine but then U are responsible for the explanations and the education of the context as in correlation to RL behaviour. Nah let the children B childreen they grow up fast enough anyways without us accelarating it. Let them play and have fun and detect Smut and violent games when it happens but do not endorse it and do restrict it so the signal is clear that it is not Ok or at least (re: Smut) not the way its done in RL. mbetea Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 If theres a will theres a way... I say buy the game for jimmy and play it with him, then he will associate the game to good old family time instead of getting lost in his own world at frankies house and going out and killing cops..Are you serious? That's like those parent's that say, "Well, he's going to drink anyways, so he might as well stay home and drink where I can supervise him." Yeah, sure we all went behind our parents backs at one time or another and did something we weren't supposed to. Difference is back then, we were made well aware of that fact that it was wrong to do whatever and the consequences that would be brought upon us if we chose to do them. Today you have too many parents wanting to be the child's "friend" or the "cool" parent instead of being a balanced, responsible teacher and provider. You're the parent for Christ sakes, step up and lay down the law to your kid, make them well aware of what they are allowed to do and not to do. Instead people want to find out every possible reason why little Johnny did what he did and then use every excuse they can find because it really wasn't "his fault". And if that fails, find some doctor that will make up an excu... I mean acronym that explains medically why he did it.
