Bump

Ok, why will Windows pick up the sata drive on the Sil, and not the NF4,

Ive totally disabled Sil, and of course nothing, I also read to shut off the RAID options in the BIOS to just run a normal SATA drive, tried and nada, also I have tried placing the sata drive in all 1-4 slots, still no avail, I'm not running raid, and dont really plan to, I have a NF4 board to use NF4 features, need some advice here.

Oh one other thing, with the sata drive placed in the NF4 slots, occasionally it shows up in the BIOS (HDD priority area), with that said, would it be a mysterious driver I'm missing in Windows?

In order for you to see the HDD in "My Computer" in windows you have to go to computer management in administrative tools and initalize and format the drive. Only then will "My Computer" see it as a viable place to write info to.

Hi,

I am assuming that the 20 G is a non SATA drive?? if so then you will need to load either a Siia (??) SATA driver or the Nvidia SATA driver for windows to recognise it.

If you were using a SATA drive as a boot drive with a fresh install then you would need to install the driver during the windows install (F6).

I hope this helps

His drive is partitioned and formated. We know this since it can be seen when connected to the silicon image SATA controller.

My guess is that the drivers are not installed correctly for the nVidia SATA controller. Open up the device manager (windows key + break, select the hardware tab) and see if the drivers for the nVidia SATA are installed. They will be listed under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers section. You should have a driver for the IDE controllers and the SATA controllers in there.

Also, are any of the devices in the device manager malfunctioning (the yellow triangle)? Are there any that are unknown or other device floating around?
