Guest Something Sexy Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 I have a DFI LanParty nF4 SLI-DR socket 939. I purchased a dual channel kit of 2 x 512 OCz EL Plantium Rev 2. Hooked everthing up, turned on fine. Formatted my raptor fine then XP put its intallation files on there. Then it went to go to the windows installer, I got a PGN.... blue screen. My first thought was RAM or a bad XP disc. Tried a different disk, did the same thing. So I booted up memtest. Tested both sticks seperately, they both have the same exact errors. So I either got crappy luck and got two bad sticks or its the motherboard. I tossed in another stick of 512 i had laying around and ran memtest on it, passing so far with 6+ passes. So now the question is, is it the RAM (most likely) or is there a compatibility issue with that RAM with this DFI, if so is there a fix or setting that needs to be changed? krujap777 Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 I had a similar problem. Windows XP could not install with both sticks inserted running as dual channel. I took one stick out, left the other stick in, and Windows installer worked. I then flashed the BIOS, updated the chipset drivers, put in the 2nd stick, and then I had a gig of ram. Boppo Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 Dude, you really need to consider getting a beefier PSU. Ryder will be back I am sure to help you with your memory. In the meantime read this thread. Davidhammock's PSU thread
RyderOCZ Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 His 420W powerstream is just as beefy as many 480W models from other companies. As long as he does not have 8 fans and 4 cold cathode tubes along with the equipment he listed....he will be fine
Beatwolf Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 Yeah that PSU should do fine, once again do not say PSU PSU PSU everytime somebody has the slightest problem, yes i do know that it is an important factor but it is far from the only solution/center of problem in a pc. You don't go around yelling NEW ENGINE! NEW ENGINE! everytime someone has a flat tire, do you? offcourse the psu needs to have the 4 connectors and the 24 pin connector i can see that but alot of PSU's under the "required" 480w minimum will do the job as long as you are not powering alot of extra stuff with it. sorry for the rant, and btw. This definetly sounds like the rams are defect, i would bring them back and get new ones.
