pdoconnell Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I've had some strange issues with stability and memory in my new system. I had problems before, installing windows and etc, but those have passed. My system's been running for a few weeks now, but I still have bluescreens and immense trouble playing any games (BF2, HL2, etc). With the games, after a few minutes of playing I get the occassional artifact on the screen then I'm kicked to the desktop with errors that I've seen through google searches are related to memory errors, and sometimes I'll just see the random bluescreen doing web browsing or IMing. All of the BSODs come up with memory-related errors, and I did a Memtest that popped up with around 100(!) errors with everything at default, no overclocks at all. I've tried swapping which slots for memory (2+4 originally, 1+3 to see if that was the problem, then back to 2+4 after that didn't help) and I still get errors, but when I only use one stick of RAM and memtest I dont get any errors at all, regardless of which stick I'm using. So apparently this is only a problem when both sticks are installed, and I can't figure out what else to try. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear. Angry_Games Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 pdoconnell you might want to give the psu thing a read too...never heard of that Coolmax you got, but it definitely is not one of the psu's that we have tested and can recommend on these power hungry NF4 boards. pdoconnell Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 I tried the timings that both of you gave me, I'm still getting memory errors in both memtest and in Half Life 2. Oh, and in relation to the PSU, I didn't check it on the list but I've talked to about a half dozen people who have used it and said its a good one. And the reviews I've read of it have it with good stability. Not top of the line, but better than average.
RyderOCZ Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 Clear the CMOS, test each stick with memtest by itself in the farthest orange slot from the CPU. Â If you have errors on only 1 sticks....send me an email...link is in my Sig
SlyKilLeR Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 figured out my problem. The psu on mine runs this motherboard fine and I cant Overclock. My hard drive had a loose pin. I replaced it and fixed the problem. I dont no what kind of hardware issue you are having, but im 99% sure its not the psu or ram. pdoconnell Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 Ryder, I checked each stick one at at time, 8 passes each for about 2 hours of testing per stick. Not a single error. I'm still seeing some though when two sticks are plugged in, so I'm going to see what I can do about getting another PSU to see if its a power issue, I have no idea if the memory errors I keep getting would be symptomatic of a power issue though. I still think its strange though that individually the sticks are fine, but when both are plugged in, regardless of the slots chosen, that they still bug out. belew Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 I had a OCZ stick that indivually would test fine but absolutely would not post with another module installed dual channel. So it can happen. I had to test OCZ along side geil modules to find the culpret.
