icemanmtl Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Hi everybody i need your advise : what will you do if you were in my shoe ! Intro My last pc has built since 5 years ago, then I am a little lost with what we found today on the pc market. I am trying to build a new one. You can see my planned machine below (see signature). The Memory dilemma My computer's store near of my home don't have a lot of model of memory to sell. Here is the "special" list for me of OCZ's memory that is available : at computer store #1 (http://www.microinformatique-extreme.com/index2.php) OCZ25331024ELDCGE-K DDR2 kit (2x512)) OCZ500512ELGEVX OCZ400512ELGE OCZ5501024ELDCGLE-K OCZ4001024ELDCGE-K (PC3200 Gold Edition kit (2x512)) OCZ4001024ELDCPE-K (PC3200 Platinium kit (2x512)) and at computer store # 2 (www.microbytes.com) OCZ PC3200-EL *PLAT* 2x512mb 1024MB KIT $199.00CND OCZ PC3200-EL *PLAT* REV2 1024M KIT $229.00CND OCZ PC4000-EL *GOLD* 2x512mb 1024MB KIT REV 2 $239.00CND MarcusOCZ's recommandation In accordance with what i posted yesturday at http://www.bleedinedge.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13945 , MarcusOCZ recommand me to pick two sticks of the VX (OCZ500512ELGEVX) individually. The computer store #1 doesn't have the kit of the VX (OCX5001024ELDCGEVX-K). If i purchase from computer # 2 THis store doesn't have the VX serie, but it have the REV2 of PC3200-EL *PLAT and PC4000-EL *GOLD* OCZ PC3200-EL *PLAT* REV2 1024M KIT or OCZ PC4000-EL *GOLD* 2x512mb 1024MB KIT REV 2 the number's model need to be conformed. Computer store # 1 vs computer store # 2 Q : Should i buy at computer store #1 with two sticks of VX or at computer store #2 with a Kit of the "OCZ PC4000-EL *GOLD* 2x512mb 1024MB" ? Final word if you draw up a list of all tester in the Overclocking database (s939), who was used the OCZ for their experiementation (22 testers at all) : 7 are used the OCZ5001024ELDCGEVX-K or [OCZ500512ELGEVX x2] 4 are used the OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K 3 are used the OCZ4001024ELDCPER2-K 3 are used the OCZ4001024ELDCGEVX-k 2 are used the OCZ5002048ELGE-K 1 is used the OCZ4001024ELDCGE-K 1 is used the OCZ4002048PFDC-k 1 is used the OCZ5331024ELDCPE-K SO, the OCZ5001024ELDCGEVX-K seem to be the popular choice. No one seem to use the OCZ5001024ELDCGER2-K (alias OCZ PC4000-EL *GOLD* REV2 ) link : http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memo...gold_revision_2 You advice is welcome. Q : what will do if you was in my shoe ! Thank you very much for reading with my poor english. Icemanmtl
loc.o Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I like the VX. Me second choice would be either the pc3200 Gold or the Rev2's. How long will it take either of the stores to get you a dual pack of VX (i mean, they are already selling the brand, they should be able to get you a set). I would get me a dual channel pack over 2 individual sticks, although i dont think it will be a prob to match them up. Good luck, its all good ram and not the worst choice to be made
century child Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 If you think it will be another 5 years before you build your next one, I would recommend looking at 2x1024 RAM kits as this is definitely the way things - especially games - are headed. The OCZ 3200 Platinum 2GB kit is good if you don't want to overclock or at least not past 220 HTT or the PC4000 Gold 2GB kit would be and excellent choice to go for the higher overclock.
