iggyweb Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Could somebody please tell me what BIOS I should use for each of these 2 possible systsem setups? Corsair TWINX1024-3200XL [2 x 512] or OCZ 1GB [2x512MB] PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum Series EL-DDR CAS2 OCZ4001024ELDCPE-K Which BIOS and which Slots, Orange or Yellow? I currently have the official 623 from DFI, but been experiencing wierd things such as random power shut downs, even at stock. I am trying to iron out the problems, and I feel the BIOS is where I should be starting from. If I get that right I can work my way on from there. Also my chip is an AMD X2 4800+ if that helps to determin the right BIOS. Any help would be much appreciated.
speedy0379 Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I think most of AMD X2 users have 704-BT2 bios, which is I am using with my 3800 X2 without any problem. As for the memory setup, I am not sure which bios will give you the best OC and stability.

speedy0379 Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 You can download it HERE . You will find tons of BIOS there plus some OC programs. Good luck and let us know how you did, hope everything will work out for you. p.s. I am using Orange slots.
iggyweb Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I have flashed to 704-2BTA bios, but nothing has changed. I have run MemTest and my Memory check out OK at stock, my CPU settings are at stock. But I am getting a "Windows has recovered from a serious error" everythime now I restore my Ghost DVD-ROM image, which I never had before. Any thoughts? Frallan Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Is that a new windows install? Were U stable when U installed? New windows solved that problem for me. I was slightly instable when I installed win the first time and after that it was never stable even after the hardware was stable. Also when that ghosted windows was installed did U have that hardwaresetup?
iggyweb Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Once I built my system, re the signature below I low level formatted all drives [NTFS] and carried out a fresh install of Windows XP Professional SP2. I installed all drivers, applications, etc... got all settings exactly how I wanted them and created a Ghost image on DVD. I tested the DVD by formatting the system and reloading the Ghost image. The system restarted exactly how I had just finished it. Over the last couple of days of tweaking around, I reloaded this Ghost image a number of times flawlessly, no errors. After tweaking a little further this morning, I had issues with windows starting, it would boot, but the progress bar would just loop and loop. I put everything back to stock reloaded the Ghost image and it said "Windows recovered from a serious error" straight away when loading into the desktop. I have flashed the BIOS from 623-3 to 704-2BTA, checked all my BIOS settings, the system is running at stock and still giving me this error when reloading the Ghost image. This is driving me insane, I think it may be the memory despite it passing MemTest on all Tests. I am going over to my friend's in a few hours, 2 swap memory to see if this resolves anything. iggyweb Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Another thing I have noticed apart from the power shutdown that occured earlier when in the Windows Desktop is that it also hung twice while browsing the Internet. This all started going wrong after trying to get to 3Ghz this morning. I put 3.0v through the Memory and put 1.65v though th CPU. I hope to God I haven't damaged anything. Frallan Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Ok U beat me to it... 1.65 on a 4800+ hmmm what heat did U hit? Also if u put 2.8V through the RAM and put it through 7-8 consecutive rounds of memtest #8 are U ok then?
iggyweb Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Right, here we go, after trying both of my sets of memory, I tried my mates memory OCZ 1Gb [2 x 512Mb] OCZ4661024ELDCGER3. I am currently running at 2.8 GHz @ 233 2.5-3-3-6 1T and it is so stable. I can run Prime95 and SuperPi 32M at the same time with no errors. MemTest has completed all tests flawlessly as well as AquaMark3 and 3DMark03. My idle temp is 38C and underload running both Prime95 torture test [maximum heat] and SuperPi 32M simultaneously the temp is 46C. The vCore is 1.58v now. My friend is letting me use his memory for a week to make sure everything is rock solid, then I am either going to get the same memory or go for the 2Gb.
