how to install win2k on sata drive .floppy controller is dead...

Hi!

i got a big problem....i wanted to install windows on my new samsung 250gb sata drive...but the floppy disk controller of my mobo seams to be dead.

I recognized that long time ago, if i klick on floppy drive in windows it tries to access the disk but then a msg pops up" please insert disk" ...i know that the floppy is ok cuz i tested it on a abit AN7 Mobo....is there any chance to install windows without floppy on a sata drive? when i continue without hitting F6 (for drivers from the manufacturers disk) the drive isnt recognized and just my IDE drives are listed...any clue how to do it??

Sure you haven't got the floppy cable connected the wrong way round?

as shinobi said make sure the cable is right way around, also make sure the cable is not damaged and that no pins are bent on the floppy drive or motherboard also check that the flopy power is conected corectly and that the power cable has no short in it.

 

if it is the cable being wrong way round usualy the floppy light will remain lit BTW.

Another Option if ya got no floppy or cant get one working=

 

You could on another PC make a slip streamed CD, The OS/Updates and include SATA drivers. ( if the PC that has your 250gb HDD is working pc, you can use it to make slipstream cd, youll just need to download and save drivers updates what ever to Hdd or CD before making Slipstreamed cd)

It is posssible as I have done this with both W2k & XP pro.

You can even make unatended install cd.

sounds like your drive is borked then, have you tried another floppy drive alltogethertested the drive in another computer?

like i said...floppy is working on my abit an7 board, so it has to be the controller.

i will have a look on this slipstream thx for help i will post if i get it working!

Any errors in Device manager?

Check in Bios for floppy & related settings.

Easiest is to Know the Hot Fix # (Example KB888113) and simply enter it in the "Search for Download" Box, you will have Option to save to CD/HDD/Zip what ever ya little heart desires!
