THunDA Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 I run it 8-10 hours.. Please try to search a little before posting.. im sure this has been asked before.. thx
koontz946 Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Thats it...... and how long i should run it till its 'stable'.The threads says 8 hours, what do you guys think? 24 hour prime is the generally accepted standard
memnoch7 Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 i have seen errors creeping out after 12-14 hours. as koontz946 said, 24hrs is a good indication of stability with prime95.
KnowYourEnemy Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 The longest I've done is 30 hours (keg party woes). A fellow overclocker and friend of mine has done 42 hours before it gave him an error.
Angry_Games Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 i say 8 hours because if it will pass prime95 for 8 hours, and all the 3d bench tests, then its a good bet that any instability you will see will happen after 8+ hours, which is more than most of us will ever spend grinding our machine with torturous cpu/memory/video loads this is not always true...but for the most part it is (ie if it will pass all the OC Database requirements, it will likely not give you much trouble if any at all)
nailzs Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 I always thought if an OC would complete 3DMark2001 and 3 games online (60 minutes) of Quake3 Arena with all graphic options on playing on a full server without crashing, it was good to go for anything. Guest Tyler Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 Thats what I think nailz. I played BF2 for about 2 hours, a HL2 mod for another hour, and some Farcry as well. It never locked up, or gave me one bit of problems, and the PC was left on for over 2 days. I tried prime to see what would happen, it rebooted the PC after 5 mins. It doesnt matter to me if its prime stable, when it plays games, etc. with no problems.
MiExStacy Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 my have fail before after 26hrs so change some settings, but my preference is 30+ hrs of prime, loop 3dmark overnight. lots of times I can prime for over 24+ hrs but 3dmark fails after couple hours so have to change some stuff there also

EvilCloudStrife Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 i had an error in prime 95 at - 15 hours 59 minutes.. i had to creep down 1 mhz HTT to make it stable. 24-hour prime is what i would do
Catdaddy Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 This is from the stress file in prime95. It says it all. CAN I IGNORE THE PROBLEM? ------------------------- Ignoring the problem is a matter of personal preference. There are two schools of thought on this subject. Most programs you run will not stress your computer enough to cause a wrong result or system crash. If you ignore the problem, then video games may stress your machine resulting in a system crash. Also, stay away from distributed computing projects where an incorrect calculation might cause you to return wrong results. Bad data will not help these projects! In conclusion, if you are comfortable with a small risk of an occasional system crash then feel free to live a little dangerously! Keep in mind that the faster prime95 finds a hardware error the more likely it is that other programs will experience problems. The second school of thought is, "Why run a stress test if you are going to ignore the results?" These people want a guaranteed 100% rock solid machine. Passing these stability tests gives them the ability to run CPU intensive programs with confidence. How long should I run the torture test? A) I recommend running it for somewhere between 6 and 24 hours. The program has been known to fail only after several hours and in some cases several weeks of operation. In most cases though, it will fail within a few minutes on a flaky machine.
