wanksta Posted July 27, 2003 Posted July 27, 2003 My friend had done a research project on it, and did it, and he was able to over clock a 2.2 p4 to somewhere around 3 Ghz. I have not seen many people use peltier cooling to cool their cpu, but what my friend had done was he took a peltier cooling block to cool the cpu and on top of the peltier unit he used a water cooling system to cool its hot side. the peltier unit keeps uses electricity to make one side very very cold (this side would be in contact with the cpu) and the other side very hot. i think he got the cold side to as cold as -15C. -------------------- AthlonXP 2500+ Barton OCed to 2800+ 12.5 x 166= 2.08 Ghz A7n8x DX motherboard GForce2 gts 32 MB (need a new one) 1 Corsair Xms 512mb PC2700 120 gig Western Digital 7200 8mb cache Verbatim 52x/24x/52x CDRW Volcano 11+ (get temps of 38 C OCed) 4 air intakes, 2 air outtakes (excluding PS) 9 fans total ATX case with 500W PS 17" flat panel Kogi monitor entire comp w/o moniter $
justinal Posted July 27, 2003 Posted July 27, 2003 yep ive heard of that what exactly did he use for all of this?
Propane Posted July 27, 2003 Posted July 27, 2003 Thats not a half bad idea - if only I was loaded on cash
Overclocker16 Posted July 27, 2003 Posted July 27, 2003 But there is some bad parts to this, if you don't have a strong enough PSU, you have to get another better one (just for pelt use). The hot side gets really hot, so if you got a crap w/c then it does no good. You can't just put a pelt on a CPU (so I hear) you have to get a copper plate or if you have enough money a silver one. wanksta Posted July 27, 2003 Posted July 27, 2003 (edited) True all of that is true. But if you are that hardcore about cooling and got the cash you can do some mad OCing. and the watercooling on the hot side of the peltier unit i think would be pretty sufficient. i have seen them cooled with a heatsink. oh and BTW my friend did it as a research project through my school and the school funded it, lol. Justinal, i don't know exactly what he used, but he built most of the stuff himself. like he bought various parts for the water cooling system and put it together himself. as far as the peltier unit i'm not sure. -------------------- AthlonXP 2500+ Barton OCed to 2800+ 12.5 x 166= 2.08 Ghz A7n8x DX motherboard GForce2 gts 32 MB (need a new one) 1 Corsair Xms 512mb PC2700 120 gig Western Digital 7200 8mb cache Verbatim 52x/24x/52x CDRW Volcano 11+ (get temps of 38 C OCed) 4 air intakes, 2 air outtakes (excluding PS) 9 fans total ATX case with 500W PS 17" flat panel Kogi monitor entire comp w/o moniter $515 Edited July 27, 2003 by wanksta
Propane Posted July 27, 2003 Posted July 27, 2003 hey - I need to talk with my school about something like that - howd he get the funding?
wanksta Posted July 27, 2003 Posted July 27, 2003 (edited) well, my school is called a public magnet school that is full of a bunch of nerds that are allowed to do research projects and the school will give us money for the materials we need for our research. So potentially i could do the same. the past year my other friend got got funded for a 9700 pro grafix card. it is a public school so everything is government funded, even the T3 line in our dorms shared with only 600 students Anyways, ask your counselor if they will sponser you for a research project like this. You never know they just might. Just tell them that the peltier unit is your material and the watercooling system. you might want to write up an expiramental procedure so it looks genuine. -------------------- AthlonXP 2500+ Barton OCed to 2800+ 12.5 x 166= 2.08 Ghz A7n8x DX motherboard GForce2 gts 32 MB (need a new one) 1 Corsair Xms 512mb PC2700 120 gig Western Digital 7200 8mb cache Verbatim 52x/24x/52x CDRW Volcano 11+ (get temps of 38 C OCed) 4 air intakes, 2 air outtakes (excluding PS) 9 fans total ATX case with 500W PS 17" flat panel Kogi monitor entire comp w/o moniter $515 Edited July 27, 2003 by wanksta
Overclocker16 Posted July 27, 2003 Posted July 27, 2003 That sounds like a good science "experiment". BTW, wanksta, put your comp specs in your signature.
Monkey6915 Posted July 27, 2003 Posted July 27, 2003 That is old news plus that is a small overclock anyway cause lots of people in here have done it so it was pointless to do with a peltier.
