S_Wilson Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Why are you trying to break-away from watercooling? Simplicity. EDIT: I also find this challenging.
Dracula Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Simplicity. Interesting, considering you chose a LANPARTY board for your system. SaFrOuT Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 i would prefer the XI-
loc.o Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 The lowest dimm is cooled very well by the fan on the XP120. The upper dimm likes a little fan of its own on it. Ive had temp sensors on me VX heatspreaders (when they were on) and the top dimm became about 15-20 degrees hotter under load without an additional fan compared to the lowest dimm. Dracula Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 i would prefer the XI-120 Sorry, never heard of it. I Googled "XI-120" and came up with nothing! I Googled 120 XI and found this HTA-120XI, which is an industrial air-compressor that weighs 640 Kg. Can you provide us a link to this "XI-120"? BTW, very cool signature! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DRACULA • MoBo = DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR • CPU = FX-57 (90nm process, San Diego core) [ADAFX57BNBOX] • Memory = 1GB of OCZ Technology (1T Mode), EL DDR PC-4800 Dual Channel Platinum Elite Edition (hand-picked, 100% TCCD chips), Qt.2 [OCZ6001024EEPE-K] • Hard Drives = a) 74GB WD Raptor, Qt.4 [WD740GD] B) 500GB Hitachi Deskstar 7K500 SATA II, Qt.4 [0A31619] *** Total SATA Storage: 2.296 Terabytes *** • BIOS = 702-2 with Change-Log Update • OS = Windows XP Pro SP2 and Windows XP Pro x64-bit • Video Card (single card, non-SLI Mode) = BFG GeForce 6800 Ultra OC™ PCIe 512MB GDDR3/TV-Out/Dual-DVI (Retail Box) [bFGR68512UOCX] • Video Driver (nVIDIA) = ForceWare v77.77 (non-Beta) • Monitor = ViewSonic VP191b (new 8ms revision) • Optical Drives = ASUS DRW-1608p, Qt.2 [DRW1608P] • Case = Aspire X-Navigator, mid-Tower [ATXA8NW-BK] • Cooling (air only) = a) Thermalright XP-90C Heat-Sink B) 92mm Vantec Tornado (119 CFM - 4800 RPM's - 56.4 dBA) CPU Fan [TD9238H] c) Arctic Silver 5 compound • PSU = Thermaltake, 680 Watts, SLI-ready [W0049] • Audio = Creative Labs, GigaWorks S750 (700 Watts, 7.1 Channel Speaker System – Retail) [51MF7010AA000]

slunge Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 i use an xp90-c on my ultra-d/a64 3000 and yeh it cools great but i cant see how its possible to add a cooling fan to the ram now, on my old nf2 board i had a fan clipped around the dram slots perched up on top of the sticks, now with this xp90 overhang there is no way to put anything on top of the ram anyhow??? loc.o Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 I dont have a pic unfortunately but when i was using the XP120 i attached a 80 mm fan using a little piece of aluminium with 2 holes in it. Attached one end to the fan on the XP120 (upper right screw hole), the other end to the 80mm fan. I bend it so the 80mm fan was blowing down on the upper dimm and it fitted under me PSU. slunge Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 hmm im not sure if it will fit between my psu and the xp90 but i can see what you mean... i will try getting two stiff wires to pull through through the xp90's spare fan clip holes, then fix those on the ram fan, might end up having to use a 60mm fan which is fine providing its not noisey thanks for your suggestion, any others floating about? soundx98 Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 THunDA has a pretty kewl thread going devoted to RAM cooling and modifications http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread...ght=RAM+cooling I use OCZ520 Powerstreams with my 64 rigs and they have a solid bottom (no fan) so I used 3M double sided exterior tape to secure two fans. 9th Post has pic. Lot of good ideas/solutions in the thread. A lot of the posts are regarding noise level. I do prefer the larger fans as they seem to "whine" less and that is less objectionable to me (you may feel differently). I almost always have tunes going when I am on the PC so maybe I am masking the noise. No real knowledge of (or desire for) a silent PC. Thank you loc.o! this is the info I was looking for. I think the panaflo will do me wonder. If i needed more cooling for the top ram slot, I can do mod from thunda's page http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread...ght=RAM+cooling. On a side note: Does anyone know if I can throttle down the panaflo fan? It only come with a two pin connector (I am buying a 3 pin tail for it), can the mobo control the fan speed with the 3 pin tail? I've got a panaflo H1A 120mm on my xp-120 and it does wonders for RAM cooling. I have a 3-pin connector hooked up to my nexus fan controller that allows me to throttle it down as necessary, like when I'm trying to sleep. I doubt the U1A will give much better performance. I only notice about 1C difference with the H1A when it is turned down to 7v.
