Jimbo Mahoney Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 I've removed the MOSFET sinks on my DFI ULtra D and whacked some watercooling on there.
Trebaruna Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Don't forget to heatsink the CPU though, it seems you missed that one.
Sorrento Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 has any of you guys measured how hot the mosfets on the nvdia video cards are? Just a thought: 80º C for a 6800GT, 95º C for a 7800GTX. While the gpu's are cooler, these mosfets and the PCB around them heat up quite a lot... and sitting directly on top of the mobo's chipset... well, you know the drill. Just a thought, I have an IR Thermometer and it has proven quite usefull knowing exactly what temperature has each component... the video cards are the hottest spots on the system. F6Hawk Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 ... If the sinks are alluminum, it won't short. ....Are you serious? Surely you realize aluminum conducts electricity? If you don't believe me, stick one of those sinks into the electrical outlet on the wall while you are holding it... Aluminum isn't attracted to magnets, but it WILL conduct electricity! IXnu Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 Arctic Alumina Compound is a pure electrical insulator, neither electrically conductive nor capacitive. Something about the way it's made. http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_alumina.htm
red930 Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 Did any of this yield any better overclocks?
IXnu Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 I can't say, I did all this before I ever ran it. Get a 266 prime/pi stable with 2-2-5-2 timings though. Seems pretty good to me, but I doubt it's record breaking!
uwackme Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 Think of Alumina as a ground up powdered Ceramic. It doesn't conduct electricity... much. Still no reason to get sloppy with it, but getting sloppy with AS3/5 can be DEADLY.
