SmileMD Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 no luck booting with vid card in the pcie4 slot instead of the normal pcie1 slot. nf4 waterblock prevents me from seating the card in slot 1. I used an old pci vid card and the system booted fine. The system shows a single led on if the pcie card is used in pcie_4, and no display. Any suggestions? StephenC Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 So you have not tried the top pci-e slot? It still could be a sync issue. May need to try the upper slot, then the lower slot. May take a few times. Give it a shot If you have a cpu hsf.
SmileMD Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 top slot PCIE_1 is blocked by nf4 waterblock...trying to use pcie_4 as boot slot so i can OC system...also swapped connectors to enable sli mode...still no post
StephenC Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 I understand that. But sometime on the nf4 sli boards, more so with the ATI cards. The bottom pci-e slots will not work out of the blocks. May need to try the upper slot then the lower slot again. May need to try this a few times. (if the upper slot is working) Then if you are able to get the lower slot sync'ed you should be good to go. ludeboy12 Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 also it could just be an x800 issue.....i can remember numerous times when all of a sudden i would get 1 led and could not boot with my x800xl..... i would have to clear cmos and then load optimized defaults and all would be well again..... always thought that was wierd.....happened in the top pcie slot though.... SmileMD Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 i can disconnect the nf4 waterblock and try pcie_1...this would leave the nf4 bare...is this a problem short term to try and get the system up?
StephenC Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 No good. Don't risk frying your processor. You don't have a hsf for your cpu?
SmileMD Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 the cpu waterblock is fine..i am talking about the nf4 chipset waterblock...is it safe to boot with the nf4 chipset bare? (the cpu will be h20 cooled)
StephenC Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 I can't recommend you do that, Sorry. I know it would be a real big pain in the backside...but do you still have the chipset fan and heatsink? and some as5 or any thermal grease?
