Just made the switch to AMD

I just purchased a 3800+ venice

I was very impressed with the venice core after a new build i did for someone ( i used msi neo2 plat mobo)

my next purchase of course will be a dfi lp ut sli-dr. i found one new for $175.

i have 3 sets of ram to play with 2* 256 (corsair pc3500 BH-5) 2*512 g.skill pc4800LA

and 2*1024 corsair xms pc3200. I will try them all and see which work best, but if anyone has an opinion on what would be my best choice for the best oc'ing potential

please chime in :)

I have been trying to learn as much as i can, as i am a total n00b with amd. I also plan on getting the evga 7800gtx to go with this set-up, which will be used mostly for gaming.

well i just wanted to say to everyone, i have finally joined the amd ranks.

It was the only logical choice, for a gaming rig. I will post when i have the build complete, and post some benchie's. Also many questions in the amd overclocking section ;)

thx THunDa :)

i have been reading all i can, and i have already checked out the link  , and will continue to read...until i understand what the heck i am reading...lol

should be about 2 weeks till i have all the parts...so i have some time to absorb this stuff...compared to amd....intel is childs play to oc

but i love the many options for tweaking for amd.

lol you say you love them now....lol

more options gives more possible problems...

but as long as you read alot, and have alot of patience, you'll be ok.

Congrats on your new pc, and gl.

Fragman']perhaps some reading on the dfi chipset fan would be good reading too :)

would love to see some results on what those corsairs can archive...a little test for me plz.....test how tight timings you can get with them at 245FSB ...???

will do as soon as all the parts arrive at the end of next week...i assume you are referring to the BH-5 :)

Read & learn from others mistakes & victories!

Yup I actualy found the DFI slightly underwelming in the difficulty of a simple overclock. that last 10% was where all the work was but I red up before I got mine. That new Corsair memory might not do so well but then again if you read up it might do fne just rember that a divider is not the end of the workd for OC now. Corsair has really turned there back on the OC community so dont expect any help form them if you have any problems. The BH-5 should be nice though and the g.skill pc4800LA should be the easest to overclock I would think. I would start with the G.skill no question.
