Acarrera Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 Anyone have some innovative ideas to get better airflow in a Lian Li PC65? I am using the stock 80mm fans (2 front, 1 back, and blowhole) along with an 80mm Thermaltake Smartfan inside the case aimed at the chipset. My cable management is good and I will be installing an xp-90 today. I hate having to leave the side and front off the case to keep the components happy. :dog:

Guest Blooz1 Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 I have a PC-65b that I ran for a couple of years, and one of the first (and simplest!) mods you can do is take off the front filter holder. You can just slap the filter itself back on, the suction from the fans will hold it in place, or use tape of some kind.(You'll be surprised at how how that thing blocks the intake flow!) I replaced all the stock ADDA fans with 80MM Panaflo "M" series, that gave better airflow with less noise. Mine were all hooked up to a Sunbeam rheostat, and could be turned down to just about silence for times when doing simple tasks such as web surfing. If you want to get ambitious, you can get an 80MM hole saw and add a second exhaust fan to the rear of the case. It may not look like it, but there's enough room! You could also add an intake to the side panel over the CPU. I hope this'll give you some ideas!
Acarrera Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 Thanks. I have already removed the front grill and filter and that really helped. Also, my new XP-90 was a Godsend. I have replaced the rear fan with a Thermaltake Smartfan II (~46cfs at full bore) and will also swap-out the two front fans for Tt's and control them with a Vantec 4 fan controller. I can then have some relative peace and quiet when not stressing the rig. I also may move two of my HDDs up to the floppy cage to open up the flow behind the HDD cage. This should also increase flow over the 2 GPUs and chipset. I'll get there, eventually.
