Hybrid9TN Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 I'm building a new comp and everything is hooked up and plugged in properly. WHen I try to power up so I can get into the BIOS, I get a blank screen and a blinking blue light on the power up on the front. Open it up and the LED indicators stop @ 3 LEDs meaning that it's not detecting the RAM for some reason. I have tried both my new RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820227210 as well as an old stick of my 512 PC2700 from my old comp that I know works and still no dice. Any help please. I'm starting law school this tuesday and need my new comp up and running. I've exhausted everything I have financially into this thing. Fight Game Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 try clearing the cmos (with battery out and unplugged) for about 15 minutes. Upon boot, only have the bare essentials plugged in, like cpu, video, and 1 stick of ram in the furthest orange slot (slot 2). If this works, then go into bios and manually set the timings for your ram. Save and reboot. If it boots fine this time, shut down. Add the second stick and boot. Hopefully you'll be good to go at this point.
Hybrid9TN Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 In the event that doesn't work, any other hints? I only ask cause I'm hoping for the best, but expecting the worst at this point. Im off to work now and won't be back til around 11ish so I'm sure no one will be awake at that point to help if resetting the CMOS doesn't help
OceanSeasforMe Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K here is your part #from the link. Add it to your signature when you make it. (user CP top left) You probably will not get much help till you do. "resitance is futile, you will be assimilated - pickles." One stick orange slot furthest from the CPU. (As per Angry_Games in the nice sticky post above. Also ed's guide is great and worth a look.)
Hybrid9TN Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 Well, almost a full day of leaving the battery out and clearing out the CMOS and still no dice. Stops @ 3 LEDs. I've eliminated everything except the board. Possible bad board? Any other ideas would be helpful..thanks guys
jkresh Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 have you tried another processor? As the memory controller is part of the processor it is possible that, that is causing your problems (and processor is easier to replace then the board)
Hybrid9TN Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 I don't have another processor to try. I upgraded from an XP 2500. I'll ask if anyone I know has a A64 I can try, but I doubt it and I'm all tapped out financially. I'll have to RMA the proc then through Newegg
StephenC Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 Try this. http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showpost.p...04&postcount=24 Also only connect what is required to post. Disconnect all drives from motherboard and PSU. Also try this out of case.

Fletcherea Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 Bummer, I was hoping to see a solution, I RMA'd one board, and sent the other off to a kind sir here at this forum, hoping he has some luck, there was no chance that I got two bum boards in a row (1st one was prolly fine as well) Every cmos clear procedure was done that I could find here at the forums, and I made up a few along the way lol, + all the parts were pretty much highly recommened minus the psu, but that still met all the requirements np, mah finners are crossed =D *Edit* Whoa, i just caught on to the memory controller part on the cpu itself, god i hope it aint that, I put it in a msi board at the local pc wheeler and dealer, and it booted, only tried it the once, hopefully that rules out the cpu, where my rma date is WAAY outdated!
