jlissandrello Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 Hey guys... kind of a stupid question but I would like to know if there is a way to wire my three case fans to the MOBO connections. I was thinking that this way the MOBO can monitor the speeds and such. Right now they are wired to connec to the Molex connectors. If you have any information whether this can be done or not, I would appreciate it.
Angry_Games Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 all kinds of great adapters here (including 4pin molex to 3pin fan header converters) http://www.svc.com/conad.html
red930 Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 In addition, you can also get baybus adaptors with RPM monitoring.
jlissandrello Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 Thanks for responding. The link brought me to a cable that connects a three pin fan to four pin power supply. The fans I have connected have 4 pin connectors and the power supply on the MOBO is three pin. Are there any cables that go the other way so I can plug in the four pin into a three pin power supply? Sea Shadow Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 Be careful and make sure the fans don't draw too much current, last thing you want is a dead header and possibly a dead mobo.
ixtapalapaquetl Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 ^^^ YES ^^^ This can do very bad things to your board. Some fans, like Deltas or Tornados, have molex connectors for a reason. How much can a 3-pin header take? Dunno. Would love to know where to find that kind of info.
Hymn Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 yeah, but my vantec tornados come with a 4 pin and 3 pin. 4 pin you plug in for power, and 3 pin is to monitor speeds
Wetchaser Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 i cant believe you guys are letting him do this? Dude, dont draw the power from the mobo for your fans. You get connectors that split the wires to psu, from wire going to sensor connector on your mobo. You then draw no current thru mobo, and still get the sensor readings. Looks alot cleaner as well.
