devnull Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 i've had my rig up and running stock for about a month and a half. i came home last night and it was non-responsive. so i shut it down and when i tried to boot it up again the 4 diagnostic leds light up, but led 1 flashes then gets down to led 4 being the only one on and beeps. after doing some searching it looks like the psu is having issues applying power to the system. can somebody confirm my interpretation of the led results? red930 Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 Any LED flashing is an error condition. Most times a PSU problem will lead to the bottom amber / yellow LED flashing. If you are getting to the last red LED lit you should be in the boot screen or BIOS. Give this a try... http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showpost.p...04&postcount=
devnull Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 i just tried the ccmos recover (15min) for "no boot" condition and it produced the same results. i'm currently performing the 8h clear. furthermore, i've also tried safe boot without any luck. this is just weird... red930 Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 What color is the LED that's flashing. The RED diag LEDs will make a blip flash during boot but after reading your post again I think I might be confused.
devnull Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 i just finished the 8+h ccmos clear and it failed with the same results. exroadie to answer your question its the red led number 1 in the diagnostic led row. i've watched these leds before and they typically behave in an countdown fashion without any flashing. however, now what happens is 1 -4 come on and then led 1 goes off and then immediately starts flashing in a heartbeat fashion; meaning it goes off and then comes back on in a 2 flash rapid succession then off again. it iterates like that about 5 times and then continues the countdown until led 4 is the only one on and then beeps. i hope that is a more clear description of the problem. when troubleshooting i always ask myself "what is the variable here...what changed?" the only thing i can think of is that i recently installed the top 120mm exhaust fan. it is rather close internal psu fan so perhaps it was stealing too much airflow? however, i don't buy that because the psu seems to power on just fine, and i keep the top exhaust fan down to 7.85v (i believe that's the lowest setting with my rheobus) furthermore, the machine sat idle for 2 days before displaying this behavior. my idle case temp is 22C so i can't imagine the psu dying due to that; barring outright hardware failure. unfortunately, i haven't bought a dmm yet so i can't troubleshoot the powersupply. looks like i'll be buying a fluke here sooner than i thought. (i really miss having access to my EE labs now i've updated my signature to include the fan models and rheobus. any thoughts would be appreciated. perhaps dfi tech support could shed some more light on the diagnostic leds behavior...? EDIT: i've counted the heartbeats on post attempt. it heartbeats 7 times. also i've checked the manual and the beep code i believe i'm getting is one long and 3 short. it seems the mb cannot init video to display more information. devnull Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 i'm not quite sure what you mean by reset. i have tried moving the card to the 2nd pci-e slot, but that didn't seem to help.
red930 Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 I think he meant re-seat your video card but you've done that by moving it to the bottom slot. Another thing you should try is a naked setup. Remove everything from the case and setup just the mobo, RAM, CPU and video card on the Mylar bag the mobo shipped in. If that boots you can add the hard drive then try other items. devnull Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 great minds think alike i removed everything from the case and powered up with only 1 slot of ram (top orange) cpu, and video card; which produced some interesting results. the fan on the video card doesn't run when in the top pci-e slot; and yes the power was plugged in. so i shut down and moved it down to the 2nd pci-e slot and fired it up. this time the fan came on fine and countdown was normal. unfortunately it gets down to diagnostic led #4 on only and beeps as soon as the #3 led goes out. still no bios coming up. red930 Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 You should use this again to try to get into the BIOS. http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showpost.p...04&postcount=
devnull Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 both the 30sec and 15min ccmos "no boot" procedures failed with the video card in the 2nd pci-e slot.
