623 series bios - No worky with 4000 SD?

Recommended Posts

Running the machine in my specs, I cannot change to ANY other bios than the 510-2 that is currently loaded. I go through the whole "DFI approved" routine, yada yada, and the system will boot ONCE and only once after the CMOS clear. After I first enter bios on the fresh flash, whether I try and put all my settting in order, or leave defaults, my system will no longer POST. I have tried probably 6 different bios, and none of them will post except this old 510-2. I have wasted probably 8 hours trying to get a newer bios to work, and really feel the need to smash something  because nothing seems to work. I have tried this with both sticks in the orange slots, tried 3 different varieties of RAM in the first orange slot only, have tried the yellow slots......ARGH! Is my bios chip or mobo hosed, or the problem elsewhere?

Hello,

Clear your CMOS for 10 minutes using the jumper.

Then put the CMOS jumper back to the save position.

Then flash the BIOS to the one you want.

After the BIOS flash, clear the CMOS again for 10 minutes.

Then see what happens.

Also do not load any CMOS RELOADED profiles from the previous bios.

After you hit the power, WAIT about 30 seconds.

I know there is a tendancy to think it's dead when it doesn't come up instantly.

Give it 20-30 seconds though, see what happens.

The stock BIOS POSTed instantly on my board.

So far, all of the 6-23's have a delay for some reason.

No love, nothing seems to work

I cleared cmos for 15 minutes, then flash bios, clear cmos again for 15 minutes

Boots to bios, I adjust settings to where they should be

Reboot, and it hangs with 3 LEDs lit on the board, no beep codes or anything

Let it sit like that for 15 minutes and still nothing happens

For some odd reason, the only BIOS that will even post on this board is 510-2!

All I can say is ???WTF??? I have no idea where to go from here

You're not doing a setup restore to a new BIOS version from a saved CMOS profile correct?

Only thing I can think of is that it's memory related. Whichever slots you are using, try the other pair.

Ask the OCZ dude what the best settings are for your RAM (or do a search). :)

Just starting out myself, I have had preliminary success with a bare bones set up.

Motherboard on my test stand, CPU, video card, using 2 sticks of RAM in orange slots, flashed to 623-3 and ran built-in MEMTEST OK.

I used optimized defaults at first and then started to fill in a few basic four memory timings.

Using default voltage settings.

Search flashing BIOS because some folks use the CMOS jumper while some folks use the CMOS jumper and removing the battery. Everyone seems to specify different times to wait before replacing the CMOS jumper and or the battery.

I've only waited a minute or two myself.

FYI: Alot of folks also talk about making sure the memory sticks are seated properly. Its hard to describe in writing how much force you have to exert. Obviously you don't want to damage, crack the DIMM sockets.

i don't see 615 anywhere... can you give me a link to the collection of BIOS?

Also, I am having problems with the reboot problem. But do you think flashing bios on the first boot after clearing CMOS will cause any problem? I am a bit worried.
