century child Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/186 I like this quote: "What? A 1,100-watt power supply? Who needs that? Even OCZ doesn’t know." :shake:
THunDA Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 Moved to off topic.. Now thats what I call power !!
davidhammock200 Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 Enermax has a 1KW, Zippy has a 1350W & they are all useless for any PC's. People are having a hard time providing enough load so that PC P&C 850W, Zeus 650W & OCZ PS 600W PSU's will work properly. EDIT: Many are reporting problems with their 600W+ PSU's. This is often IMO because they have no where near enough load. The following is IMO a good load for one of these 600W+ monsters: SLI-DR rev.A01FX57 Twinmos Speed Premium UTT 2-2-2-8 1:1 OCZ Powerstream 600W 2*7800GTX Extreme @ SLI Innovatek Watered 4*WD Raptor 36GB /NForce WD 200GB Caviar /Sil3114 Samsung Syncmaster 913N Soundblaster Audigy USB
Guest Tmod Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 Ahhh that is nothing, How about 1434 Megawatts. Here is the image of it. It doesn't fit well in a case though!! Tmod

wodan Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 OFFTOPIC = OCZ shouldn't be focusing on MORE powerfull PSUs but instead on updating what they have out there now. I personally would like to see a true ATX 12V 2.0 compliant modstream with an active PFC, etc. ... (modstream2?) ... oh well... (modstream2?) ... oh well... this is true...an OCZ psu with dual PCI-E connectors would be fantastic...I cannot recommend their psu's for SLI because of the fact they still only have a single PCI-E connector =(

Prometheous Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Thats just plain cheating, they took two power supplies, glued them together, and said here, we have a 1,100 Watt power supply. Look at the picture, you can see that the power supply is in two parts, with wires connecting them together.
red930 Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 I'm not too keen on the design. Two PSUs running in parallel is a great idea, just not (IMHO) in the configuration displayed. Examining it from a technical perspective, I find the following: 1. As stated in the article, if one section fails, the unit stops functioning. Unless OCZ implements internal connectors between both sections, repair would be costly in time and components. 2. Another concern would be the cooling implementation - a combination of warm air from the case and the front PSU would be flowing over/through the 2nd/rear PSU before exiting out the rear exhaust. The inclusion of a middle cooling fan does help to accelerate the flow of warm air through the unit, but would still heat up the 2nd unit more. 3. The housing is much larger than what most cases have space for. There are, however, several cases (Lian Li PC75B and Cooler Master Stacker, for example) which have ample room for such a beast. Just my 2 cents worth.
PC1X1 Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 And nothing stops anyone from just simply using 2 seperate power supplies, why wait? And if one dies, you got another one. Just an interesting thought heh! If you have space that is though .
