Dragon666 Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Hi all, I got this mobo recently because I had heard that it was terrific one, but when I started assembling my new PC, I encountered a big problem. Firstly, I don't know what is the cause of this problem. It may be the mobo, the CPU, the PSU or even our AC network. So, when I got home with a new mobo and a PSU, I assembled it together (mobo, CPU, cooler, RAM, PSU, DVD, HDD), turned it on and it worked. So I thought that everything was allright and wanted to install WinXP. Then I turned off the computer (using the EZ Touch Switches and the switch at the PSU) and when I wanted to turn it on again (first the PSU and then the EZ Power button), the diagnostic LEDs blinked (all 4, as in in the system start-up) the fans moved a little and then they stopped (as the whole computer). The standby power LED and DRAM power LED carried on glowing. When I pressed the EZ power button again, nothing happened. And this happens almost always when I try to turn it on. From time to time (about 4 or 5 times altogether), it starts working normally, but when I power it off and then on again, the same problem appears. There is no change if I connect the molex and the fdd cable, but when I disconnect the 4-pin +12V connector (so that the only connector connected is the ATX12V one), the fans go on and the PC doesn't switch off, but it stays in the system start-up condition (4 LEDs glowing) - nothing on the screen. Excuse my English please.

Excuse my English please. PSU problem. PSU Guide: http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10854 The p4 (+12V) connector provides power to the CPU. The DFI N4's require a little more +5VSB than most mobos & that is one of the many reasons why we have a PSU Guide with an "A" list. Select a PSU from the "A" list & your power problems are solved. Good Luck, Dave
Dragon666 Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 However, this PSU should be quite good and I've heard about people running this mobo with much worse PSUs. BTW: my PS/2 and USB have 5V, not 5VSB, I don't use 5Vsb for nothing and even if I would, the PSU has 2A 5Vsb branch. And it doesn't solve the problem that it works from time to time, does it? It also allows for "wake on LAN" & other boot up options. All modern mobos us it.
Dragon666 Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Yeah, I understand, but the PSU can deliver 2A, as I have already written. The problem is that the computer is running right now (however I don't daresay it would run again if I turned it off) . Sometimes it boots up and sometimes it doesn't. I have found out that the best way to ensure that it would boot up is to leave it lying for a couple of minutes and then try to start it again. Worm Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 What BIOS version are you running Dragon?

Addiarmadar Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 You may have purchased a decent PSU but THAT one you have isnt. Have you noticed any high-pitch noises or electronic chirping noises from cold boots?
yavim Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 I have the same exact problem and im running on OCZ ModStream 520W
TheCripple Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 I have had the same problem on my new Infinity SLI board. I was able to use it just fine with my X850XT, gig OCZ 3200 Platinum Rev. 2, and Athlon64 X2 3800+ for about 2 days. Then one afternoon after work, I tried to power it on and the fans kicked for a fraction of a second, and then nothing. I haven't been able to get it to boot since. I've used a new server class 550 watt power supply, with no luck. The power supply I originally was using was a new 480 watt Thermaltake. My symptoms are the same. When I plug it in, the led between the PCI slots turnes on. When I hit the power button on my case, the fans turn just a little, and then nothing. The DRAM LED turns on and then stays constant. I cannot get it to boot at all. I'm fairly certain it is the motherboard, and am going to RMA it to newegg. I just hope that it hasn't nuked my brand new video card and processor
