VectorTensor Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 Make them pay for parts, and charge them an hourly rate....
Angel.O.Y.S Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 I dunno, Might, depends on the friend, you may want to do it with them present, make them learn or get them to get a crate of lager in, and make them do it with you barking orders and getting progressivly drunker. *EDIT* Obviously make them order it all under their money, but depending on how good the friend would depend on how much I'd charge, beer or money
njswift10141980 Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 I would def make them pay for all the parts I just don't know how much to charge him for putting it together. He's more of a guy I talk to at work and that's pretty much it.
Angel.O.Y.S Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 Dude at work you say:- Muhahahahhahahahhaha laughter> This dude you're talking about... He a noob? If so then I would say charge lots, say $50per hour. If he's a pseudo friend..... then lower it! - Angel

ricey Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 My Q is how much would you charge somebody if they asked you to build their rig for them ? Thanks depends how much you like them I do most of my friends rigs for them for free, but I won't build their families PC's lol. I don't charge my friends, but I'd charge their families like a wounded bull Building PC's can be stressful so I figure that someone needs to pay ricey
Angel.O.Y.S Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 TBH, Time is money, considering my upgrade took all of 6 hours including the dismantling of my P4 System, taking the case apart and cleaning it up with Green Fairy Liquid (no I don't mean absinthe) So saying that, time doing that, is time out of gaming and clocking. Why not earn some money off the noob? erm... I mean dude. Anyways, Man who pay for prebuilt machine is not man at all... Says so in the Bible... page 1337 I think... - Angel
Frallan Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 I don't build for ppl I "just" know. I might help very good friends out but then Im also prepared to add service into it free of charge. For me it isn't worth the hassle to have ppl calling me when the latest Porno-show program tore the system down...
soundx98 Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 A Fallen Angel. If YOU build it, you will definately have to hassle with fixing it when he dork's it. I think the Beer + Money + Barking Orders is well thought out. Or maybe upgrade one of your components as well in the process. Have him pay for the Upgrade as part of the deal and he can prolly use your "pre-owned" stuff.
ICON57 Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 its a good question....here is my answer, at present, i am building a new rig for a friend of the families son, he is a teenager, and wants a cool gaming rig, with plenty of power. I am charging them/him....(the son is paying for the entire rig himself, with his part time job) $100.00, and in my opinion, that is a bargin!!! I had to do all the research on finding the parts online (within his budget) which was not easy, and took about 2 hours. the build itself wont take to long, about 2 hours, however the install of the os, and the tweaking and stress testing i will do will take much longer...so, imho he is getting a great deal, and i just worked for about 5 bucks an hour....isnt that below min wage? lol..... red930 Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 Good advice all the way around. Always get the user to order the parts in their name so they have the warranty and RMA rights. Make sure the user knows exactly what they're getting. A completed rig versus a tweaked rig means many additional hours of work. Some users are interested in how a rig goes together so have them over during the build if you can stand the constant questions. My personal favorite is the "build it and forget it". You deliver the parts to me and I deliver a completed rig to you. DONE!
