X2 4400 or 4000+ SD???

I am getting rid of my FX-53 (Friend wants it bad) so I am shopping around for what to get next.

 

My problem with deciding is I want a good OC but the X2's make it hard because allot have one bum core. But on the other hand I would like the future benifits of the dual core.

 

 

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I had to decide as well, and I went for the X2 (as you can see below). Even if you can only overclock a little, it would be like having a dual FX-53 And if you are lucky, you can have more.

If you dont do much multitasking I would get the 4000+ and oc/game with it for now. I dont do any video editing etc, so ill get me a dual core when games/benches will be ready for them.

Where is a good start to research a good week/stepping for the 4000+'s?

I have a 4400+ and am giving seriouse thought to getting rid of it..I am having alot of issue and myabe it just i havent learned enough.

 

All my issue have to do with gaming.. With my 3500+ i could game and encode dvd's with dvd shrink. Now i cant If i start of encoding, then load the game i am ok, but suffer a huge hit in FPS.. I play WoW the most now, with out anything running i get 64fps in WoW, which is the max it allows. If i have dvd shrink going before i play, my fps drop to 13 where as with the 3500+ i would be at like 55-58. But if i am playing WoW and load Dvd shrink, my puter locks up and i have to manually reboot. I even just reformated and loaded drivers as listed in the sticky..

 

If i play neverwinter nights, the game runs to fast, unless i alt tab out and set the affinity and then it runs fine but the graphics mess up every so often.

 

The same for Advent rising. Now i didnt build a big system, to have issues.. So perosnaly i am thinking of going with the 4000+ get alittle bet O/c and not have so many isseus..

 

So far i have been able to mulitask(the bit i do) better with a non dual core.. I dunno, i don't want to have to changed settings every time i load a new program. I wanna double click and go, which is probably my fualt for getting brand new hardware before the bugs and such have been worked out..

I have learned to deal with the way the A64 single cores work. I do one, or two things at once very quickly. I usually have a decent OC which makes that one thing go super fast.

 

I was wondering about how things have been going as a whole in the non-synthetic benchmark ocean that seems to make dual-core amazing. But I dont want to get caught up in something that isnt going to help me untill it is mainstream and out of date by the time it fully funtional by means of optimized software.

 

Well off I go 4000+ SD hunting. If anybody has any info on what weeks and steppings are good or where to look would be greatly appreciated.

See my sig. Had a 3500 Venice (IHS on)at over 2806 Prime stable. My 3800 which has the same clock as the 4000 with the difference in cache would reach 2940 Prime stable (IHS off) and the benchmarks below is the result. I just picked up a 4400 X2 and currently it is running prime stable (6 hours) at 2806 stable with me at 2827 prime stable so far (IHS on for now). My 3Dmark01 score went up 650 points even though this cpu is at over 100mhz below the 2940. My 3Dmark03 and 3Dmark05 scores are also a tad higher but not much. HOWEVER, my Photoimpact , Photoshop, and DVD encoding is so much faster with this setup. I take many pics with my 20D and open many pics at the same time in my photo editing software. The 3800 even at 2940 just could not cope and would slow waaay down. The X2 is laughing at it. I did not have my hopes high for this cpu and bought it due to the many rave reviews here and elsewhere. I can now say that it is a keeper and the 3800 is for sale. No second thoughts about it. Any buyers?

For games, I swear FarCry is faster and this is reflected in some bechmarks I have see elsewhere with FarCry with the X2 stock at 2.2 pulling in close to FX-55 frame rates which runs at a stock 2.4.

Now if I was ONLY playing games and nothing else and do not believe that I would be anything else other than games in the future I might stay with the 3800 but I know the future holds more powerful software and dual core is the way for ME, possible not you.

Been running XP64 for months now with my sig and NO PROBLEMS. I don't know how anyone can say single core is better at anything :tooth:

From what I have read and seen, the X2 performs just as well as single core cpu's 200mhz higher in single core applications. I would have to agree with my personal experience and benchmarks. Plus I have read that the 1mb oc's just as well as the 512 versions Now the single core 1mb cpu's did not seem to oc as well as the 512 versions, but the dual cores appear to be a different story. I have yet to hear of a bad overclock on the dual core thus why I bought it. I have heard of some that were dismayed that their 3800 did not reach 2800. But gheesh, your talking a 600 overclock! Also that 2800mhz is equivalent to a 3000mhz single core! Currently my X2 4400 at 2850 is blowing the doors off of my 3800 at 2940 plus I have more room to go. No contest. Glad I made the switch. Would not go back and this is after 2 days of ownership!
