worldpassionmc Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Please help! I just finished building my computer. My case has 4 fans. My cpu heatsink/fan runs the fastest at 3750 rpms. The rest are under 3000 rpms. I believe 520w should be sufficient. My OCZ has all green lights which means it's running good. I have cool n quiet disabled. (no difference if on or off) And I tried lower the tempature in bios hardware monitoring to where the fans kick on full speed at a lower temp and nothing changed. I haven't even installed windows yet because I'm afriad I'll over heat something when the computer has to do some work. All suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. worldpassionmc Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 p.s. nothing is in the way of the fans.
loc.o Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Whats the rest thats under 3000rpm? Are you sure temps actually are high enough to set the fans to fullspeed? Whats max rpm for the casefans? How fast is chipsetfan running and what is chipset temp? What connectors are the fans on? I wouldnt be worried too much, if temps are fine youll be ok. worldpassionmc Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Whats the rest thats under 3000rpm? Are you sure temps actually are high enough to set the fans to fullspeed? Whats max rpm for the casefans? How fast is chipsetfan running and what is chipset temp? What connectors are the fans on? I have two fans in the front and they are in front of the disk drives. at about 2250 rmps. The fan on top of the case is about 1650 rpms. and the rear fan I don't believe is being monitored but blows out the best of them all. I lowered the temps so they would set the fan to full speed and nothing happened. I will have to get back to you on what fans are plugged in to which ones. I will also get back on the max rpms. I'm sure it's at least 7200 though. Like I said I haven't even loaded windows yet because the fans scared me. The cpu is at 1800mhz at 38-39 degrees celsius and the other items it monitors were at 44 degress celsius. I will get back to you on that info tomorrow. I guess I'll try loading windows and see how it goes. I couldn't find fan specifications on cooler masters website.
Jules_Verne Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 You didn't exactly state what your problem is? Are your temps too high? Why are you worried? Won't the fans start? You should always make sure that, excluding your psu fan, you have more air coming into your case (in the front) than is being expelled through the back. That way you're keeping positive pressure inside the case, which ensures your psu is getting amble cooling. Otherwise your psu might fry, it's important to keep that cool as well as the other components. I once had an extremely powerful 120mm fan excuding air at the back, and it totally prevented/stole any air from getting through the psu, which then ran extremely hot when gaming, etc. Also make sure air is being blown past your harddisk, so it doesn't overheat; a healthy temp for a hdd is around 40-45 C. loc.o Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Only fans attached to the CPU/Chipset/PWM conns will run faster as a result of increased temps/bios settings. Im sure you system is fine. You can set a "shutdown temp" in bios just in case..

You can set a "shutdown temp" in bios just in case.. Exactly what I was thinking! If he has 4 case fans they are probably connected through molexes directly to the PSU (or some are connected to the MOBO headers that are NOT thermaly controled) and they are NOT thermaly contorled and will run at max RPM 24/7... 44 for the chipset/PWNIC is OK. 39C on the CPU is probably ok with the stock cooler too... RED STATE RAY Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 I have added two fans (intake & outlet) and increased the fan speeds, and not been able to lower my temps one degree. (Not one !!) I am running stock everything, and my AMD 4200 idles at 40, with the board temps at about 44-48 each. The room temp is about 75 degress (Fahrenheit ... sorry I'm not gonna do the math to convert to C, rest assured that's pretty cool.) Under load, the CPU stays under 50, and the board temps stay under 60. I've read that as long as I stay in those parameters, I'm good. So ... my conclusion is that at stock parts, the AMD 4200 is gonna run at 40 idle, and the DFI Lanparty will run 45 idle. worldpassionmc Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 What worried me is in the bios where the you can lower the temperature for when the fans need to kick in full speed. I lowered the temp for the fans to kick in below what the bios was reading for the board and cpu temps; and they did not speed up at all. I did that just to test it. that was my main concern. Glad I'm not having any problems with my corsair memory in dual channel. will be replacing those to overclock soon. Thanks everyone. Yeah part of my problem is I'm a newbie. This is my first system I have built and it just scared me that I could see the fans turning. It should be a blur. Haven't been home yet to check out the specks of whats plugged in where. Has anyone ever though of getting a personal cubical desk air conditioner from somewhere like thinkgeek.com and blowing the cold air into their case intake fans? I have two fans one above and one below my hard drive and two fans blowing air out. one at the top and one at the back. I was thinking about just setting the saftey setting really low for the heat and messing with it some more see if the fans kick in higher. So whoever said to do that thanks I agree. I'm electronically inclined but, when you spend the money I rather be safe than sorry.
