Capt Proton Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 I don't know how to tell what drivers to delete when using Driver Cleaner as both my Chipset and Video Card are NVidia. Is there some key to recognizing which is which?
Fight Game Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 since you have nvidia chipset, nvidia video, and most importantly nvidia raid, I would suggest NOT TO RUN DRIVER CLEANER ON ANYTHING THAT SAYS NVIDIA!! I thought I would do some "clean up" and ran into this. Seems I unknowingly uninstalled the nvidia raid drivers, and upon the next reboot, everything was hosed. You must have selected the cleanup Nvidia Raid option by accident Fight Game, bet that was a nightmare eh. I had an issue by cleaning up the IDE Drivers. Even though i don't have IDE HardDrives XP wouldn't boot because a file was missing... Luckily had had the drivers on a DVD so just launched the XP Recovery Console and copied the file to WINDOWS/System32/Drivers and fixed it... From what i've been able to tell to cleanup the Nvidia Video Card Drivers your meant to just select the "Nvidia" option in Driver Cleaner Pro. JCamaro Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 The standard Nvidia selection is the one you want for the Vid Card drivers. Just don't use the nforce chipset cleanup selection, or you'll be pulling a Shinobi for sure. I had the same thing happen and had to manually reinstall the IDE SW drivers from recovery console, not fun . JC

Shinobi Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 Forgot about that I did it from CD. Just copy the file to a CD and copy it over from that in the recovery console. You could even download Knoppix Live Linux Boot CD, burn it to CD and boot off it. When its launched its just like a normal Operating System but running from CD, copy the file from floppy to the System32/Drivers folder and your done. If you do use Knoppix then type knoppix toram to run it from memory when it boots or it runs really slow...
