Misfit138 Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 The strangest thing happened and now my pc is just a big black box that wont get past the checksum error screen. I shut off my pc and walked away. I came back and a POST-type screen was up. it said "Checksum error, defaults are now loaded, press f1 to continue or del to enter cmos. Please re-setting CPU freq. in BIOS" Nothing has changed in my system for months, and was working fine until this point. I tried resetting the bios, leaving the battery out for 1 min or so, same thing. I cant get past this screen at all. No bios, nothing. Any ideas? thx! Snook Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 mmm weird, maybe your CMOS battery is flat? Try getting a new battery and see if that helps. Snook
Markus_d Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 I had the same problem once, but i cant remember how I got rid of it... Anyways, clear cmos a couple of times and see if it helps... I think thats what i did...

"Please resetting CPU settings in BIOS" is at the bottom of the Checksum Error screen. Any other ideas? I would really appreciate it! Snook I agree with Snook, Did you replace the battery ? When I see cmos error checksum threads my mind associates battery first. If you have a d.m.m. you can test your cmos it should be 3.00v minimum. (I would not hesitate to replace one at 3.02v on a good electrical meter)

(Used the batt from another pc...same battery, same brand) Battery voltages were 3.04 and 3.15, put the 3.15 in. Same thing. Stuck at the checksum error screen..... cant get into bios. RGone Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 hot flash the bios on another computer. Get another bios chip that is pre-programmed. Those are the two easiest things to try for a real fix. RGone...
