SATA slots 5 to 8 do not recognize hard drives

Recommended Posts

Guest RedRider

These used to work no problems when system first built but now after a new windows install, what ever drive I connect to these ports (5 to 8 - Silcon Image Sil3114) nothing is recognised. Nothing was changed in the bios to maybe cause this.

Have SI3114 bios set to SATA...... not SATA RAID or disabled

Do not want raid just want to connect single HDs to these ports.

Re installed all the NVidia drives and also loaded Optimised defaults but still no go.

Not real expert at this so anyone have any ideas why these ports have stopped recognizing HDs?

Thanks

Had the same problem only with the Nvidia SATA ports 1-4. Became gradually unable to recognise HD on any of these ports, and the HD wasn't spinning up on boot up. When I plugged it into the Si3114 ports the HDD was recognised and span up immediately on power up. Confirmed with DFI engineer that this was likely a board problem and had to RMA the board.

Sounds like you have similar problem only on the SI ports. Try swapping HDD to the ports 1-4 and if detected you've a problem on the SI ports. Try it with your case open and your hand on the HDD to detect the vibration (with usual safety precautions....).

Have you installed the drivers? ports 5-8 are on the SI-3114 SATA controller, and not Nvidia sata chips.

Install the Sil sata drivers on your CD or from the DFI site, and you should be fine.
