n2gaming Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 So I purchased a new DFI over the weekend and I want it to run any game and last a long time like 4+ years. Any Experts Please advise of type of ram, Power supply and how to configure my machine for optimum life and performance while maintaining compatability and flawless operation. I have plans to purchase Nvidia SLI PCI-E cards, Windows XP-64 bit. and AMD FX55. but for now I want to stick to the ba-sicks for future growth! Time will allow for $$$ to pay for the better goodies mentioned above. What Kind of Ram and Power supply should I purchase for use in future plans  . Oh yeah does any one know of conflicts or problems using wireless keyboard and mice? n2gaming Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 OK some I have been told this before. I am on my AMD Duron 800 From a 2001 build and am just starting to have problems because I started messing w/it. Any way I believe that if I build a good solid stable machine and keep it cool and clean it should last as long as possible. Any way I'm looking for helpfull advice. PoppyMcShotgun Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 I agree with LCBOman1. A computer built with brand new components from 4 years ago is "slow as hell" compared to the entry/mid-level systems offered by Dell. A few suggestions. -Get WinXP, not 2000. No argument over that one. You think games coming out in 2009 (4 years from now) will still support Windows 2000? Hell no, they'll most likely be 64-bit. -Get a 3500+ Venice core, not Clawhammer. Supports more instructions, and has better thermal properties. -From what I can tell, it says you have a 10GB master drive... Typo? -As for RAM, if you're going to play BF2, get 2GB of RAM (2X1GB). The OCZ Gold series works wonders from what I can tell. -Wireless keyboard and mouse should be fine, a lot of people I know use them regularly. I personally won't use them for gaming. -Flash your BIOS to the latest official one when you get it, the 623 one. All I've got for now... e_lion_1 Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 ram, ram, ram - that and the powersupply seem to make the largest difference. I can't say much about the powersupply, but for RAM 2x512 seems to be working well for me. A number of RAM brands will work, but do a search of this forum before putting money out. Quick hint: Hynix based RAM do not play nicely with this motherboard. As for myself - I'm quite happy with the OCZ I picked up. You'll also notice a jump in things going from that 5500 to a 6600 (or even 6800) depending on your budget. I dunno if the 7xxx series is worth it just yet. Good luck! JAXK Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 You're on the right track, n2gaming. >>I would recommend my power supply (in sig), as it has enough power for any system, even if you add on to yours later. >>Like PoppyMcShotgun said, go Venice instead of Clawhammer. AMD will be phasing those out, as they are inferior to the Venice/San Diego chips. >>As far as future-builds go, SLI is probably a good choice. I would get two 6800 Ultra's or two 7800 GTX's. There won't be a game on the market for quite a while that actually requires the insane power of two 7800's. Hopefully this helps! n2gaming Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 Thanx to all. I found my self at these links, by doing some research here on our wonderful forum and from a post by a user who goes by THunDA! thank you!!! good stuff checkmout http://www.slizone.com/content/slizone/build.html http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone_howtobuild_1.html http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_s...ersupplies.html To: PoppyMcShotgun in regards to HDD no typo I set up with a 10 GB drive that's just laying around from an old system. would like to upgrade to raid but don't know any thing about it. So before I spend money on it I need to do more research on raid configs, prices and set-up. any suggestions??? Now about the CPU it's not to late to return it since I have not got it yet. I will research the prices. I paid $219 @ Fry'sOutpost for Clawhammer hoping to get good cpu spd @ good price that was two day's ago. Only wish I turned to this great forum first. Oh yeah I ask about the wireless keyboard and mouse because I had athlon 64 3000+ 929 with 2x ocz value pack of 512 ram. Then while playing Unreal Tounament the mouse froze for like a quick second or so several times during lengthy play times. Oh Yeah I Plan on BF2 when system is done! TO: e lion 1 Don't know a whole lot about today's technology and will research Hynix based RAM Thanx TO: JAXK I like the sound of a quiet power supply with extensive power but man my budget is one thing at a time know what I mean vern? My funny humor not directed towards you I'm just being silly. TO: ALL Ideally I will have a screaming system with XP 64 bit OS and AMD FX-? what ever will fit my board. I'm getting there thanks to you ...
deeselcyde Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 my opinion, you should dump the FX55(waste of money) and get the 4000 Venice, pretty much a FX, with a little overclock itll be past the FX55(i have a 3800 Venice and OCed just below a FX57, i still can give it plenty more) and with the extra money you save on your CPU get a OCZ 600 watt PowerStream(a bit over 200$....worth it). RAM....well i have 1 gig(2x512mb) of OCZ Plat. Rev. 2, and i have that overclocked, it beats out any other ram on sandra.......by ALOT, but if your not overclocking probly the OCZ pc4000 Plat. Edition
n2gaming Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 TO: deeselcyde Yeah I know the price issue. I'm hoping a year from now the price will be 1/2 or cheaper on FX. I'm chicken, bok bok of overclocking don't want to do anything to ruin a good cpu. OH the last link was dead Opologizzze It's late and time for napzzz!!! here is last link http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone_cool_stuff.html
