  1. Welcome! Thanks for checking out my tribute to Mad Max & his Interceptor build log. This is one of my Bucket list theme PC builds. My mother brought me to the premiere of The Road Warrior movie and I've been fan of this world ever since. This will be a modified desktop PC with liquid cooling. Inspired by visual elements of Max's Interceptor and the Mad Max World. ...and maybe Fury Road. There shall be rust and maybe even a Detonator attached to the PC? (lol). I'll be sharing highlights of it's progression stages, including video clip links as I move along in this thread. I have a basic idea of what PC hardware components will occupy this mad max inspired PC (motherboard, CPU, DDR, GPU, SSD, PSU) The case is an Enermax Equlilence they donated to me last year. If you've followed my past personal builds, I like to find good deals on hardware whenever possible I do plan to fabricate the liquid cooling lines from 361 marine grade stainless tubing. No idea what brand of CPU & GPU water blocks, radiators and fittings I'll use yet. The case is the Enermax Equilence I was given. It sorta looks like a Fractal Case, but without any of the well thought out features. I apologize in advance if you're expecting me to pose a Mad Max action figure inside the case (haha). The Interceptor's V8 feels more appropriate. The scale Ford engine I'm using is by LIBERTY Classics, http://www.libertyclassics.com/ I've added motorized shaft to spin the supercharger belt, you can watch it here, https://twitter.com/Mnpctech/status/992023385818492928 I've modified the supercharger pulleys with larger plates to keep the belt from rolling off. I will be fabricating a new engine scoop to emulate Max's Scott Injector Scoop and painting everything dark grey.

  4. Cliff note version: Game is lagging, specifically FFXIV I updated the videocard driver, enabled DX11, and used razor cortex to try and help. (seemed to at first, but a few days later the lag returned.) This is a fresh install of windows, I have AV running and have checked for infections, none found. I've turned the AV while playing to see if it contributed. Did the same with other applications... No fixed it. waiting for next move... My system specs: Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge @ 3.3GHz ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 Sapphire Radeon R9 270X 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 G.SKILL Sniper Series (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS 320GB Samsung 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s (SSD) COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO RR-212E-20PK-R1 Samsung SH-S183L Antec Nine Hundred Silverstone SST-ST75ZF 750W Notes on system specs: PSU is from (8/2007) cpu, mobo, & memory are from (12/2011) Video card is from (12/2014) SSD is from (12/2014 but didn't take out of box till 6/2015) Windows 7 64bit is on SSD, FFXIV is also on SSD Detailed version: I have been getting significant issues with lag recently in games I play. It seems to be primarily in FFXIV, but since I mostly play that game it is hard to compare against others fairly. A few hours of LOL seemed to run without any issue though. I have played FFXIV while pinging the local hub for my ISP and google.com (at the same time). During that time the game lagged heavily while the pings remained steady. This along with other players not experiencing the lag issues leads me to believe it is on the hardware or software/driver end. I have taken the following steps to correct the issue, but haven't had a perminent fix yet. Initally the game was running on DX9c (I didn't realize I had to enable DX11), I have done that and run it on DX11 since. My videocard driver has been updated to the most recent update. I also have tried installing razor cortex and running the game with that to help improve the problem, and for a few days it seemed to do the trick... But then the lag came back. I continue to confirm it is only me having the problem and that it isn't an internet issue. My computer is running a fresh install of windows 7, I recently (problem happened next day after install) installed the OS to my new SSD. So this is a fresh windows with Anti-Virus running and I have scanned to confirm. I also have played the game with no extra applications running in background, both with Anti-Virus on and off. Nothing is correcting the lag. Where should I go from here? I would like to diagnose the source of the problem but not sure what's next. Looking for recommendations.

  8. hi all its been some time that i have been on here. this is my gaming rig that i have been working on in 2014. can u all rank my gaming rig, and give in put/feed bake on the weak components upgrand options ? Case/Tower, Antec GX700 Monitor, 1 ASUS VS247 1920 by 1080- 1080p GPU, EVGA 980 sc MoBo, ASRock z87 Extreme 6 PSU, COOLER MASTER Silent Pro M2 RSA00-SPM2D3-US 1000W Ram, G.SKILL Sniper serirs 2X4 8gs 2133 CPU, Intel i5 4670K 3.4 ghz over clocked to 4.3 GPU, Cooler, CORSAIR Hydro Series H110 SSD, Samsung 830 128 G 2-500g WD HHD Head set, Razer Tiamat 7.1 Gaming Mouse, Mad Catz R.A.T.7 Key board, Steelseries Merc Stealth OS, Windows 7 Professional 64 bit Yamaha 5.1 surrond sound i am thinking a better Monitor is in need maybe something with G-SYNC to set this setup off?
  9. At this point I NEED to upgrade my PC's monitor and that will happen in the next 2 months but... For the time being the monitor I'm currently using is quiet laughable. Let's just say that at the time I built my first PC about 3 months ago, I had not fully considered the impact that a half decent monitor or even a lower end monitor would have on my gaming... So I decided to save some cash and just stick with an old 18" Acer moniter very similiar to THIS one, that was leftover from a long ago discarded emachines desktop. Now I'm no idiot, I was'nt planning on settling for gaming in 1366x768 resolution! See... At the time I had an old HP Notebook with a Nvidia 8200m GPU, which when connected the the monitor through the VGA port allowed for resolution up to 1920x1080 on both the acer monitor and notebook display! I basically figured that if a 128bit notebook GPU could handle 1080p (quit well actually) on the acer monitor. Than my R9 280x OC Edition should do the same and/or better w/ absolutely no problem... Well... For whatever reason I was wrong. Dead wrong! Whenever I try to set the resolution to anything past 1366x768 with my R9 280x and the Acer monitor, the screen immediatly goes black and a prompt states that the current resolution is not supported by my monitor... I have tried adjusting the resolution thru windows and thru AMD's Catalyst Control Center. Even with various setting enabled/disabled... (GPU scaling for instance) But nothing seems to work. I should note that I have to use a DVI to VGA adapter with the Acer and my R9 280x, which I believe may be a large part of the problem. All the drivers are up to date on both the GPU and monitor but that doesnt seem to make a difference. So if you have any ideas on how to remedy the situation that would be most helpful... I would even gladly settle for 1600x900 for the time being.

    RATE MY FIRST BUILD

So I embarked on quite the journey today. Thats right I built my first PC... Thought I'd share it with you wonderful people and get your perspective. Now I should clarify, all Iv'e done so far is order everything on newegg, it has yet to arrive. Although I am fairly confident that I'll be able to assemble everything correctly as the past two years I've done plenty of research and tinkered with several scrap'd PC's. Just salavaging what I can from them and consolidationg the parts into an atleast working machine... haha But this is my first starting from scratch and more than half decent build! So basically I've been wanting something that could play all those fantastic looking games for quite some time now... But all Ive had is a joke of a Dell laptop with no gpu and a piss poor apu, so it seemed like it was never gonna happen. But I've had a dream build in mind for some time and today it became a reality! I set out on this project having in mind something that could handle games like: -ArmA 3 -Metro: Last Light -ArmA 2: DayZ Mod -Fallout NV: (Heavy GFX Mod's) -AoE II HD (w/ pesky cpu lag) -MW2 Multiplayer -MoH Multiplayer -Chivalry: Midieval Warfare -Skyrim (Some GFX Mod;s) -Diablo 3 -Etc... All at high-ish to ultra graphics at reasonable framerate, (possibly while twitch streaming) and I think I accomplished just that. If anything jumps out at you as majorily incompatible let me know! I did a decent amount of research and truly believe its going to startup that first time, just fine... BUT honestly compared to the veterans here at OCC I probly know next to nothing. So here's the build: 1. - I started with a decent highly rated Asus AM3+ mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131873 2. - Decided to go 8 core with the CPU, just for shits/giggles and AoE II HD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113285 3. - Then a friend reccomended this sexy beast of a GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130932 4. - After that I went crazy with the RaM... 24gb DDR3 1600 crazy: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314 and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231568 5. - And I'll Raid 0 two of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147247 (For 240GB of fast booting and short loading screens...) 6. - I then decided on an Asus 7.1channel Sound Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829132006 (To go well with the SteelSeries 9H headset i also orded...) ...Figured I'd go standard with seven and eight... 7. - Asus 802,11b/g/n Wireless adapter: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833320143R 8. - Asus 24x DVD Burner: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204 9. - Then I'd house all this glory in a Cougar Volant Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811553006 10. - And power it with a 600W EVGA PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438014R ...So how did I do? First I know 240gb of SSD isnt alot but I have plenty of external storage AND a 1tb I can pull out of a junker if I ever really need the storage. Also I purchased a dual 2.5" SSD to 3.5" mounting kit cause case only mounts a single SSD without it. Anyways I want your advice/opnions/etc... I do plan on upgrading case fans, cpu heatsink, and anything else I may need to, in just a few short months. So what I need to know is... - Will it boot? - Do you see any major bottlenecks? - Anything I should STRONGLY consider upgrading/replacing when the time comes? - Hell, anything I should return/replace immediately? Thank you for reading this, I can't wait for your input! Sorry if I rambled at all. I havent slept in 36 or so hours haha. Goodnight all and thanks. - H37 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I also got these goodies to add to a great gaming experience... - Func KB-460 Wired Gaming Keyboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823848001 - SteelSeries Sensei RAW: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826249093 - Wired Xbox 360 Controller: (I use to be a fanboy/still love that controller feel) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16874103205 - SteelSeries "9H" 7.1ch Headset: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826249115

    [WTS] Entire PC rig

ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN 3 Motherboard - 120.00 Intel Core i5 2550k 3.4Ghz - 3.8Ghz - 200.00 8Gb Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz - 50.00 AMD HD 5850 1Gb video card with aftermarket cooler - 100.00 Antec 900W "High Current" gaming PSU - 100.00 Creative eXtreme gamer X-Fi sound card - 40.00 500Gb Seagate Barracuda HDD - 40.00 Corsair H80 CPU liquid cooler - 65.00 So total price looks to be 715.00 without the case and disk drive but if you decide you want the entire rig I will knock the price down to 650.00 +shipping. If the system gets parted out then the numbers stand pretty firm negotiating can be made via PM. Please no thread flaming for my prices I have started at. The reason I am selling the rig is because I'm going back to school and I need to get a laptop; which I am buying a macbook pro from my friend he never used.
  12. Hey so i am confused as hell having not bought a computer in forever. I am going to start doing video editing / gaming and use either Adobe premier pro cs6 or sony vegas pro 12. My main concern is what graphics card or processor should i get. this is what ive come up with so far, i am not sure if i need a better video card cause stupid adobe has a limited list and none of the ones at this site are on it. so maybe it anything i want to know if its good enough for sony vegas. cause the video card reviews are so back and forith, some say overheating some say dont run their games. thank you for any help. http://www.ibuypower.com/Store/Fall_B85_Special/w/191014 Processor 1 x Intel
  13. Choosing new monitor: for Gaming, video, and general purpose. I prefer 16:10 Aspect Ratio to 16:9. I am looking at 24", 1920 x 1200, 16:10 options, $320 max. Would really appreciate some input. I was satisfied with the LG W2241T [21.5", TN, 8000:1 Dynamic], until the capacitors blew. I didn't experience problems associated with the dynamic contrast. Current top contenders: 1. LG 24EB23PM-B - IPS, 5ms Response Time, 300 cd/m2 Brightness, Contrast Ratio - Mega CR(DFC) (1000:1 - 5mil:1 Dynamic), Refresh Rate - 56-75 Hz, TFT active matrix, WLED backlight, Dot pitch 0.269 mm, Release Date - April 10, 2013. $240 - $260. I can't find any reviews; possibly because it's so new on the market. http://www.lg.com/us/commercial/lcd-computer-monitors/lg-24EB23PM-B http://www.lg.com/us/commercial/documents/SPEC_EB23Series_031317_PR.pdf http://www.lg.com/us/commercial/documents/LC_LCDSmScrn_031328_PR.pdf http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7965934 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005496 2. LG 24EB23PY-B - Seems to be a more expensive version. The only difference I can find is that it supports Display Port hookup. If you can find other differences, please tell. $313. http://www.lg.com/us/commercial/lcd-computer-monitors/lg-24EB23PY-B http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005491 3. ASUS PA248Q ProArt Series. Boasting superior color ("Color Saturation 100% sRGB, 72% NTSC"), though I think they're going heavy on the marketing fluff. IPS, 6ms GTG Response Time, Contrast is 80mil:1 Dynamic, WLED Backlit (not RGB-LED), other specs are nearly the same. Possibly better color, but poorer response time. Released: ~7/2012. $310 - $370. Reviews are positive, but do state that ASUS is inflating its numbers. https://www.asus.com/Monitors_Projectors/PA248Q/ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236287 http://www.digitalversus.com/lcd-monitor/asus-pa248q-p13430/monitor-review-asus-pa248q-better-than-pa246q-n24543.html http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/pc-peripheral/3416265/asus-pa248q-review/?tab=verdictTab#top 4. Dell UltraSharp U2412M is well-reviewed, slightly older. Similar specs, with some differences. IPS, Contrast 2,000,000:1 dynamic, Response Time 8ms. Other specs are nearly same as LG, on paper. Released ~7/2011. $350 - $380. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824260047 -It is important to note that many of the tech specs are filled with marketing BS, and that the LG and ASUS may be about even. -Part of the cost of the display is from additions I don't care anything about. I'll include approximate cost of the items, as if they were sold separately; however, when things are bundled-in like this, they often use cheap parts, tout it as a big deal, and add much more to the actual pricetag. LG 24EB23PM-B: Built-in speakers. ~$10. ASUS PA248Q: 4 USB 3.0 Ports. ~$30. Both have an Ergonomic Adjustable Stand. I need one, but I'm prepared to buy one separately. I would go to a store to see them both with my own eyes; but I can't seem to find a convenient store location with these models. So I'll likely have to buy sight-unseen; which is a large part of the reason I am asking for help. Useful information on tech specs and marketing hype: http://gizmodo.com/5936192/16-misleading-display-specs-and-what-they-really-mean http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/display_myths_shattered http://pcmonitors.info/articles/the-evolution-of-led-backlights http://compreviews.about.com/od/monitors/a/LCD-Monitor-Buyers-Guide.htm How well do the 'LG 24EB23PM-B' / 'ASUS PA248Q ' stack up? Other suggestions are welcome. Thank you very much for the help.
  14. Hey there, am planning my first ever gaming PC build and was looking on opinions of my build so far; Sapphire Radeon HD7970 Vapor-X GHz Edition 3GB Intel Core i7 3770K 3.5Ghz Asus Sabertooth Z77 Corsair HX750 v2 750W PSU NZXT Phantom Enthusiast Chassis Cooler Master Hyper 612 PWM CPU Cooler Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 64MB 2TB HDD Corsair Force Series GS 128GB SSD G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3 PC12800/1600MHz CL10 2x8GB RAM any suggestions for how to improve upon this build would be greatly appreciated.
