  1. I've been looking at upgrading my old ViewSonic for something more flashy and gamer-grade, namely a 4k IPS GSync monitor. A few of them were announced back in July - including some magnificent (on paper) monitors from Asus and Acer, both using IPS panels and utitlizing latest and greatest from NVidia - the GSync technology. Since then, little was revealed about when said units may be available to the end-user. According to various speculations, the dates range from September 2015 to early 2016. Conducting my regular search on e-tailers websites such as Newegg and Amazon i couldnt help but notice that there are many monitors utilizing AMD's Freesync are already on the market. So, that really makes me wonder - what's the catch? Why do they make us wait? I, personally, am an Asus fanboy and hence, waiting on the IPS GSync monitor by that particular manufacturer although at this point i would gladly settle for a 34" Acer predator, if it was available with GSync. The Freesync verision is out there already, and considering that it works ONLY with AMD cards i assume it helps AMD rack up some money. Could someone explain that to me?

    Motherboard Help

So frustrated right now...just got a NZXT Source 210, i5 2500k, 212 evo, and an Asus P8Z68-V LE motherboard. I first installed all the parts in the case with my current PSU, HDD, GPU, and ram. Everything worked fine until I went into Windows and it started to randomly crash after I opened a few programs. So I thought this could be two things, either a software problem, or its my PSU. I'm using the same Enermax 550W PSU which powered the specs in my signature. Anyway I went ahead and first updated the graphics card driver, lan, chipset, and audio drivers. No luck. I tried the VGA driver too but it said that I didn't meet the minimal requirements or something and it failed to install. I then went on to download the latest BIOS. I used the Asus EZ update in the BIOS to load the latest rom from my HDD (possible problem here?) and then it restarted and gave me a black screen which states: "WARNING! BIOS Recovery Mode has been detected! Please put the file "P8Z68VLE.ROM" into a removable USB media device, and reset your computer. You can also insert ASUS Support CD into your CD-ROM and reset your computer. If you have done these, please wait a moment and don't shutdown your system! _ Well I don't have an optical drive, or the support CD, so the USB was my only option. The file I downloaded was named "P8Z68-V-LE-ASUS-4102.ROM" which is slightly different from what the name should be when it appeared in the BIOS. I put it onto a USB, loaded it, and it took me to the same screen. So I waited for five minutes and nothing changes. I would think this is longer than " a moment"... I then rename the file to exactly what it matched on the BIOS and I'm now stuck at a black screen. I also cleared the CMOS and re-seated the ram. Temperatures are not a problem. The cpu was running around 32 C idle when it was working. -------------------------------------------- I think downloading one of these programs might solve it, not sure though. I'll go ahead and list them anyway. Bios Renamer for USB BIOS Flashback and Crashfree BIOS 2 or Bupdater Utility V1.30 for flash BIOS under DOS. The USB only had the renamed BIOS file on it, nothing else. -------------------------------------------- Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  4. Hi all, So finally after 5 years of waiting from my current X58 build i'm having a major upgrade and i'm pretty excited !!!! I would like to have advice on which closed loop liquid cooling option I should go for, bear in mind that I prefer to have my case quiet, so some quiet fan options and whatever would be nice. I'm also still not sure about the Rampage V Extreme as I might change it for the Asus X99 Deluxe, keep in mind that i'll be using a dedicated sound card and 2x GTX 980's in SLI. The case is also subject to change. My budget is from $5000 to $5500 Chasis: Corsair 750D (moving from current HAF-X) Motherboard: Asus Rampage V Extreme CPU:Intel Haswell-E 5930k Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 2666hz C15 Memory Kit Graphics Card: 2x EVGA GTX 980

  6. Hi all back for the new year with a new build, firstly after my previous attempt of a desk build I found that it took me months to build and mad far too many mistakes such as ventilation, no base, to square, poor build quality just to name a few. So this year I've decided to make a follow up project to get it all right and this time I've Been far more motivated. Hope you like the build. I will be recycling the computers from the previous build although adding more water cooling parts and possibly a 2nd GPU and fans lots of fans. Quick Sketch up of the plan Not sure if I will need 3 monitors might settle for 2 and we come to the build and the finally the fan holes for that much needed ventilation
  7. Hi everyone They are the same price. Which one I choose? ASROCK Z87 KILLER or ASUS Z87-A This is for a new PC I'm building, I already have an i5 CPU and 4GB of RAM Thanks

  9. Hi all, Im new here and im an absolute idiot when it comes to overclocking (more of a software guy). However I would like to get the best from my system before I upgrade the whole system. I really wouldn't know anything, not even where to start nor how to check if I have all the prerequisites for overclocking. This is my configuration atm: MBO: Asus 5PKE-Wifi Proc: Intel Core2Duo E8400 Mem: 2xKingston KVR800 2G + 2xKingston KVR800 1G PSU: Corsai VX450 W CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Seidon 120M GPU: ATI Sapphire HD4470 -> probably switching to GTX650 or HD7790 this week I'm not sure about the memmory, is everything compatible for an OC and is it even worth it? if someone could step guide me i would be really thankful (i keep reading that e8400 is really easy to clock up to 3.6 ghz) thank you very much in advance.
  10. Choosing new monitor: for Gaming, video, and general purpose. I prefer 16:10 Aspect Ratio to 16:9. I am looking at 24", 1920 x 1200, 16:10 options, $320 max. Would really appreciate some input. I was satisfied with the LG W2241T [21.5", TN, 8000:1 Dynamic], until the capacitors blew. I didn't experience problems associated with the dynamic contrast. Current top contenders: 1. LG 24EB23PM-B - IPS, 5ms Response Time, 300 cd/m2 Brightness, Contrast Ratio - Mega CR(DFC) (1000:1 - 5mil:1 Dynamic), Refresh Rate - 56-75 Hz, TFT active matrix, WLED backlight, Dot pitch 0.269 mm, Release Date - April 10, 2013. $240 - $260. I can't find any reviews; possibly because it's so new on the market. http://www.lg.com/us/commercial/lcd-computer-monitors/lg-24EB23PM-B http://www.lg.com/us/commercial/documents/SPEC_EB23Series_031317_PR.pdf http://www.lg.com/us/commercial/documents/LC_LCDSmScrn_031328_PR.pdf http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7965934 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005496 2. LG 24EB23PY-B - Seems to be a more expensive version. The only difference I can find is that it supports Display Port hookup. If you can find other differences, please tell. $313. http://www.lg.com/us/commercial/lcd-computer-monitors/lg-24EB23PY-B http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005491 3. ASUS PA248Q ProArt Series. Boasting superior color ("Color Saturation 100% sRGB, 72% NTSC"), though I think they're going heavy on the marketing fluff. IPS, 6ms GTG Response Time, Contrast is 80mil:1 Dynamic, WLED Backlit (not RGB-LED), other specs are nearly the same. Possibly better color, but poorer response time. Released: ~7/2012. $310 - $370. Reviews are positive, but do state that ASUS is inflating its numbers. https://www.asus.com/Monitors_Projectors/PA248Q/ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236287 http://www.digitalversus.com/lcd-monitor/asus-pa248q-p13430/monitor-review-asus-pa248q-better-than-pa246q-n24543.html http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/pc-peripheral/3416265/asus-pa248q-review/?tab=verdictTab#top 4. Dell UltraSharp U2412M is well-reviewed, slightly older. Similar specs, with some differences. IPS, Contrast 2,000,000:1 dynamic, Response Time 8ms. Other specs are nearly same as LG, on paper. Released ~7/2011. $350 - $380. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824260047 -It is important to note that many of the tech specs are filled with marketing BS, and that the LG and ASUS may be about even. -Part of the cost of the display is from additions I don't care anything about. I'll include approximate cost of the items, as if they were sold separately; however, when things are bundled-in like this, they often use cheap parts, tout it as a big deal, and add much more to the actual pricetag. LG 24EB23PM-B: Built-in speakers. ~$10. ASUS PA248Q: 4 USB 3.0 Ports. ~$30. Both have an Ergonomic Adjustable Stand. I need one, but I'm prepared to buy one separately. I would go to a store to see them both with my own eyes; but I can't seem to find a convenient store location with these models. So I'll likely have to buy sight-unseen; which is a large part of the reason I am asking for help. Useful information on tech specs and marketing hype: http://gizmodo.com/5936192/16-misleading-display-specs-and-what-they-really-mean http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/display_myths_shattered http://pcmonitors.info/articles/the-evolution-of-led-backlights http://compreviews.about.com/od/monitors/a/LCD-Monitor-Buyers-Guide.htm How well do the 'LG 24EB23PM-B' / 'ASUS PA248Q ' stack up? Other suggestions are welcome. Thank you very much for the help.
  11. Hello to all: I started playing BF3 a little over a year ago. Since then I've built a pretty decent system yet I still don't see what I would consider an improvement in my game. Not that I'm great to begin with but I wanted to hear from all what your thoughts are in term of how much does hardware make a difference. I'll list my current system and hope someone can give me some pointers which might tweak hardware more to gain a little more advantage. Mind you, I have to go the hardware route as my reflexes are not what they used to be. No matter how hard I try the twenty something's literally run circles around me. Here goes: iCore 7 3770K OC to 4.4 MHz 2 GTX 670 SLI 4GB SuperClocked (rarely oc the cards). If I do I only boost memory to around 700+ and processor ~40+ 32 GB G.skill ram DDR3 2400 (no oc, don't know how yet) Triple ASUS 144 MHz monitors but game on one. Get too dizzy using the surround feature ASUS p8z77-ws motherboard RAT 7 mouse Razer keyboard Corsair Vengeance 2000 headset System is air cooled entirely Think that's it. Any and all comments, suggestions, tips, and/or criticisms appreciated. Bests,

    Productivity?

I currently only have one monitor, a ASUS 27" VK278Q. If I wanted to increase my productivity would I be better off getting another VK or VE 278Q OR should I go for something like a Dell U2412M and throw it in portrait view? So basically 2 x 27" or 27" + 24" ? Would the colour differences be THAT bad between the monitors? would it be tolerable?
  14. Hello does anyone have any experience with this card. I would like to find out how well it overclocks and if the voltages are locked http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/HD7950DC23GD5V2/ Thank you!
  15. Hi there, I want to set up a raid 1 with two 3tb drives for data, mainly video and keep my os and programs on a non raid hdd (which i intend to upgrade to a ssd). I set up the raid 1 with the Intel ROM utility but windows wouldn't launch. It says in the P9X79 manual that "Due to chipset limitations, when set any of SATA ports to RAID mode, all SATA ports run at RAID mode together" im guessing this is why. Is there a way round this? If not what is my best option, software raid or a raid controller? can anyone recommend a raid controller below
