MAD MAX Tribute PC Case Mod & Build
mnpctech posted a topic in Cases, Power Supplies and ModdingWelcome! Thanks for checking out my tribute to Mad Max & his Interceptor build log. This is one of my Bucket list theme PC builds. My mother brought me to the premiere of The Road Warrior movie and I've been fan of this world ever since. This will be a modified desktop PC with liquid cooling. Inspired by visual elements of Max's Interceptor and the Mad Max World. ...and maybe Fury Road. There shall be rust and maybe even a Detonator attached to the PC? (lol). I'll be sharing highlights of it's progression stages, including video clip links as I move along in this thread. I have a basic idea of what PC hardware components will occupy this mad max inspired PC (motherboard, CPU, DDR, GPU, SSD, PSU) The case is an Enermax Equlilence they donated to me last year. If you've followed my past personal builds, I like to find good deals on hardware whenever possible I do plan to fabricate the liquid cooling lines from 361 marine grade stainless tubing. No idea what brand of CPU & GPU water blocks, radiators and fittings I'll use yet. The case is the Enermax Equilence I was given. It sorta looks like a Fractal Case, but without any of the well thought out features. I apologize in advance if you're expecting me to pose a Mad Max action figure inside the case (haha). The Interceptor's V8 feels more appropriate. The scale Ford engine I'm using is by LIBERTY Classics, http://www.libertyclassics.com/ I've added motorized shaft to spin the supercharger belt, you can watch it here, https://twitter.com/Mnpctech/status/992023385818492928 I've modified the supercharger pulleys with larger plates to keep the belt from rolling off. I will be fabricating a new engine scoop to emulate Max's Scott Injector Scoop and painting everything dark grey.
Yeah, the title says it all really, how do I overclock it, because 2.66 Ghz just is too slow Thanks!!!!
AMD Chips vs Intel Chips
Narcotic posted a topic in Processors, Motherboards and MemoryI've always been a fan of AMD, I like their products and their price accordingly. However, there are tons of people that choose Intel over AMD. To start I'll compare my CPU that I've owned for almost 3 years now, to an Intel chip that runs at just about the same speed. Here. AMD Phenom II965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz (OC'd to 3.8 GHz) - $99.99 vs. Intel i7-4820K Ivy Bridge 3.7GHz (Turbo 3.9 GHz) - $324.99 Why is there such a huge price difference if supposedly they run approximately at the same speed? note; I've played on some Intel Core built PCs that are way more powerful than I imagined. What am I missing here?
Debating A Build. Need Advice From What I Have....
akmirdock posted a topic in System BuildsOk, I am running the following system... ASrock Z77 Extreme4 Motherboard, I7 3770 (non k), 8GB DDR3 1600 (2X4 CL9), 1280MB GTX 570 TwinFrozrII Video Card, 2X120GB SSD In Raid0 (intel 520), Coolermaster 1000W PSU 27" Samsung LED Monitor 1080P Being that this is the NonK chip, I cant really overclock it, and the small amount that I can, isn't really worth it. I am selling off the GTX 570 and am in the process of doing research on a good Card to replace it with. I am trying to get back into the gaming scene, and with this card, its really showing its age on current titles. On FFIX ARR, I have to turn everything almost off in quality settings to run it at 1080P at 60FPS. I guess my real question is, should I keep using what I am using? OR should I maybe look into building something with the 4th gen i7 and upgrade the whole pc?? I also was thinking about going to AMD for an 8 Core, but from all the reviews and posts I have read, it doesn't seem if any if at all, an upgrade from what I am using. The parts are all about a year old since I got them, and everything works great, but should I be looking to build something newer? Any thoughts would be great. Thanks!
Overclocking my Intel i7 3820
ImABeginner55 posted a topic in Overclocking and CoolingHey guys, I am thinking about overclocking my processor but am worried that it will melt, I Use my ROG rampage IV gene and its nice preset bios tools and I wanted to overclock my 3.6Ghz to 4.985Ghz, is that possible without absolutely destroying my processor? I have an Intel i7 3820 LGA2011 socket with intel/astek liquid thermal solution with arctic silver 5 thermal paste, single fan closed circut cooler
[Build Log] Project AbyssSponsored By This is my first massive build, I am constructing a new desk to house 2 separate computers, one for Gaming and the other as a small home server. the desk itself will house 2 computers one on either side of the desk and in the middle all the HDD's from both computers. On display will also feature water-cooling reservoirs and multiple temperature LCD's. The Water cooling of the rig will Chanel down under the desk into 2 large radiators that will be housed inside a tiny fridge to keep the water temps down around 0-10 degrees Celsius. Rig 1 (gaming) Mobo: ASUS Rampage IV CPU: Intel Core i7 3820 Ram: undecided will be either corsair or g.skill PSU: OCZ fatal1ty 750W GPU: 1x Gainward GTX680 HDD: 2x Samsung 840pro 256gb SSD running of a raid card HDD: WD 2tb Green Rig 2 (Media Server) Mobo: ASUS Sabertooth x58 CPU: Intel Core i7 930 Ram: G.Skill Ripjaws 12gb @1600mhz PSU: Thermaltake 450W GPU: EVGA GTX 550ti HDD: Corsair Force 60GB SSD HDD: 2x WD 3TB Green HDD: 1x Hitachi 2TB HDD: 1x WD 1TB Green so here is the start of the desk and some of the parts that have arrived will keep you updated as i work on it. And the Desk Progress Will post more as i work on it this weekend.
CPU Future proofing (4 Gen. Intel)
EliteScrubs posted a topic in Processors, Motherboards and MemoryI was basically wondering what the best CPU is for gaming, moderate overclocking and being somewhat future-proof. Currently I have a i7 920 that is still a solid cpu for what I do. But I'm having bsod problems that are really starting to frustrate me and I can't seem to resolve, so i'm just looking into upgrading my system. I'm curious to know if anybody has any input on what would be the equivalent to the i7 920 right now, in terms of price to performance and that sort of 'workhorse' cpu that can be more than enough power for years? I've been looking to the i7-4770k and 4670k and whether they would be a good fit or whether i should step back to the i7-3770, 3570? Would I ever use the integrated gpu? Do intels 4Gen. run too hot for a reliable and stable overlock? I havn't been keeping track of all the intel cpus recently and don't know what socket is what (lga 2011, 1155, 1150....) I just feel like there is way to many options. I was also looking into the Asus Maximus iv Hero motherboard and I already have a ATI 7970. Thanks for any help!
Laptop Intel CPU AMD Graphics
Jklein posted a topic in Miscellaneous HardwareOk everybody I have a simple question I was thinking of upgrading my laptop and I saw that it could support up to an I7 I have an I3 I'm using HP Pavillion G7 2240-us I talked to hp and they confirmed it is upgradeable but ridiculously expensive. It uses a g2 socket I have my cpu and I'm using the rip jaws 8gb dual channel 1600 MHz memory. Now it also says that my computer can come with radeon hd 7670m discrete graphics. Know does that already have to be on the motherboard or can you get the chip and install it? I looked into getting the motherboard but everyone of the g7 series that an intel cpu and amd graphics they no longer carry they sent me a list of parts vendors that might carry it but before I but it I was wondering if there was a compatibility issue or anything of a similar nature that caused it to no longer be carried?

Stefan posted a topic in Overclocking and CoolingHi Guys, One of my friends suggested i post here regarding my overclocking issues with my 2600k and age (maybe also windows 8...) The CPU used to be a decent overclocker, able to do 5.1 GHz on 1.385v and LLC lvl 10 for shorter stints (staying below 80 degrees celcius), and 4.5ghz as my 24/7 oc using 1.305v and LLC lvl7, super stable and always below 65 degrees celcius. Recently I upgraded to windows 8 (had the release preview and then used the upgrade discount), and since then i've had trouble getting my pc to boot up on anything above 4.5ghz (even tried 1.45v LLC 7 for 4.6GHz), and even on 4.5Ghz it is not stable for any decent length of time, giving me "machine check exeption" or "system service exception" or "dpc watchdog violation" bsod names, all going away once I back off the OC to something like 4.2 GHz on 1.32v and LLC off... I've had this CPU for just about two years now, on the same gigabyte p67a-ud7-b3, the same silver arrow cpu cooler and the same corsair HX750w psu (the silver efficiency one) Is this only processor aging? Is my chip dying? Could it maybe even be my motherboard or psu?
