  2. This still going on? If so, I'm in.
  3. Would that actually be it? I'm in the midwest and my window is open to cool my computer so it's not exactly hot.
  4. Alright so my storage drive is taking a slow dive into the ground and I need to get my data off of it. Unfortunately, I have 1.3TB of data on this drive. Granted 520 gigs are Steam games, but that still leaves quite a bit that I would like to recover. The issue arises when I try to do a standard Windows backup and I get an I/O error about 20 minutes in, usually before it's even finished calculating how much data will actually be copied. Is there any advice that you can give me to help with this issue?
  5. So one of my Sapphire vapor-x 6950s had a run in with my wireless card while the fan was running and snapped off two of the fan blades. The card still works fine but it makes a banshee racket when starting up and rattles at anything above desktop idle. Normally I would send it off to Sapphire but it's 3 months out of warranty. Is it possible to replace individual fans on graphics cards or do I have to replace the entire heatsink?
  6. Alright, thanks for the info guys. Basically we are looking at a full rebuild of his system based on what you guys have told me Probably not what he wanted to hear but it is what it is.
  7. So my friend is looking to upgrade his computer for the first time and has come to me for help. I've been out of the game for a few years so I don't really know the waters that well. That being said, he has the following mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813186155 His first upgrade is to get a graphics card (he doesn't have one currently) and I can't for the life of me remember what exactly the limiting factors are on a graphics card. He wants to spend about 400 on the GPU alone so he has a pretty decent budget but I don't know if his board can support any newer cards. Can someone give me a crash course on what determines whether or not a board can support a card and what my friends options are? Thanks
  8. Well I've had several problems with my crossfire setup over the months and It's time I moved to a single card setup. Since one of the problems I've experienced is that crossfire will just randomly stop working, I've essentially been running a single 6950 1GB instead of the 2 I have in my case. So my intention is to sell my 6950s and get a single card. Manufacturer doesn't really matter and from what I've seen, an R2 280x looks to be about what my 6950s should be but in a single card format that won't break the bank. So thinking about an R2 280x to replace my current setup. Does anyone have any words of advice or other suggestions before I proceed?
  9. Woo! First time I've ever won something in a contest like this. Thanks for the contest Bosco and grats to everyone else who won. Merry Christmas all!
  10. Actual performance is more important than cost but we don't really want to spend over $100 but we will if we have to.
  11. Alright, so college is back in session and my apartment is currently without internet. We have 1 choice of cable provider and that is comcast. Anything else is too slow or too expensive. Now there are 6 people in my apartment, each with laptops, cell phones and even a desktop or two. Basically, we will be using our internet quite a lot. Comcast has offered to rent us a modem for the low price of $7 a month but one of my roommates wants to buy his own and then take it home at the end of the year. Since it will save the other 5 of us money, we decided to go for it. However, none of us knows much about modems in general so I have come to you OCC seeking advice. Basically, we are getting 20Mb/s down from comcast and need a modem and wireless router to support it. There will be 6 of us with laptops as well as several cell phones. The apartment is very sectioned off so wiring each laptop is not an option. We are willing to do a modem/router in one option but it still must be robust enough to handle ~10 wireless connections at once for the majority of operation. We aren't too willing to spend more than $200 for the combined total but will if its necessary. So any advice?
  12. OCC is awesome because of its members. The content produced in the reviews, the discussions, the helpfulness of the population for any and all computer related concerns. I know Nyt already said it but OCC is a lot closer than most online communities. It's one of the only places I still frequent for this very reason. I would enjoy a bulletstorm I have a steam account.
  13. If any good has come of this, its that apple has proven, once and for all, that their product is identical to everything else out there and bring nothing to the table except higher prices and a smug attitude. Just yesterday I was at a pizza joint and overheard some people behind me discussing how one guy had a Samsung laptop that he paid 700$ for and his girlfriend (I assume) had a $1500 macbook pro. She said she wanted to take it back and get what he had since they were the same

    Orcs Must Die! 2

Mine on most missions is to use the charge attack and mind controll spells as the main weapon instead of traps. Works very well on endless when you get 4 mountain trolls at once since they tend to kill themselves and everyone around them. I like having the traps being a backup rather than a main defense. I have no idea if this will work in the later levels though, since I'm still only halfway through. Endless takes a lot of time

Tar + wall grinder + swining mace wins pretty much any level. Unfortunatly, the sorceres gets this stupid ice vent thing instead of tar. It's still quite good but not nearly as much as the tar traps.

    Orcs Must Die! 2

To me, endless is what makes the game. The enemies are stronger but not so much that it feels unfair. You get to experience all of the enemies in different varriations and you get to really see what you can build with a large amount of cash and time. I will say though *spoiler* brimstone is by far the best trap in the game. */spoiler* That plus barricades (which I dont really see as "traps") can make mincemeat out of any ground based enemy until round 30 or so when even medium orcs can take most traps without dying. It is "faster" to get skulls from the story missions but only if you 5 skull them the first time and never have to repeat. Otherwise, endless is the way to go.

    Orcs Must Die! 2

Alright so basically what I have determined is that the game wants you to respec every level to adjust to the new challenges. As mentioned above, none of the traps are any good unless fully maxed, so respecing to make what works actually work is a requirments. Also, endless is a great way to get skulls. I got to round 40 on the second endless level and that netted me 20 extra skulls in addition to the 5 ones you get normally. Haven't beaten war mage yet though since I've been playing endless but having enough skulls to max every trap you use in a level is a huge boost.
