About to build my gaming desktop
  1. Alright - here it is: The Official Worklog of my build. Exciting first post - today, following the advice of El_Capitan, I bought myself the SSD for my new build. The Crucial C300 RealSSD 128GB. This, of course, is the first purchase of many, so stay tuned for new purchases, unboxings, assembly, final product, and some (hopefully high) bench numbers.

I only regret not finding it sooner. I guess now I know why I've never been cool or known any cool people.

I hate to disappoint you, but I'm severely lacking in the creativity department.

Northwest Indiana - A common moniker around here, probably less known elsewhere. Essentially semi-rural Chicago. Not too much exciting around here.

    Hi! How do you do?

Ha, and I can't wait to build it. Expect lots of pics, and hopefully little confusion. Can't make any promises though.
  7. For only $20 more, I'll just pick up the 850, and not have to worry about.
  8. I think you lost me here. Are you suggesting Two HD 5870's? If so do they work seamlessly in Crossfire, e.g. no microstuttering? But will it run as efficiently? Is there any reason to get the 850 then? Anyone else want to comment on this?
  9. Is this a joke, or no? 6850 CF may be faster than 6970, but wouldn't really leave me too much room for upgrade without replacing both cards, correct? And to El_Capitan, I'll go for the AX850, unless there's anything else that has a better efficiency/price ratio - but I hear the AX's are pretty quiet. On the P8P67 Deluxe, do the extra power phases really make a difference on the low power Sandybridge CPU's? If not, then as long as the P8P67 Pro supports Crossfire, then I can go with that. I won't need the other LAN either. Also, thanks for posting that SSD deal, I'll be picking that up very soon!
  10. I've been looking everywhere for a date and haven't been able to find one. This is great news - Looks like I'll be able to start my build even sooner!

Thanks all - I've learned a lot here, and I'm looking forward to learning more.
  12. Is paying double the price really worth it though? Will improvements be that noticeable? Edit: Prices will probably drop by the time the P67's are re-released, so I'll definitely look in to it.

  14. Ok, so here's my new potential build, just looking to see if this is viable. Thanks in advance for comments. Haf X case (I'm pretty set on this) Corsair AX750 (will this be enough or will I need a AX850?) P8P67 Deluxe board i5 2500k (This will be primarily for gaming, so I don't think I'll need the 2600k) Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 2x4Gb DDR3 1600 (I hear good things about Mushkin) ASUS Radeon 6970 2Gb (May purchase a second one in the future) Intel X25-M 80Gb SSD (Seen good reviews on this and seems like a good price - completely open to other suggestions) and this monitor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236059 Looking at the Venomous X in black for the cooler with some Medium Yate Loons As for thermal paste, Arctic Silver 5 is sufficient, right? Well, hopefully I'm not missing anything. I have keyboard and mouse covered and a 1Tb drive for storage. I plan on overclocking the i5, but I'm not sure about memory or graphics card yet. We'll see once I get some temp readings.

Hey all, just introducing myself. My name is Rick, I'm 21 and fairly new to the overclocking scene. I'll be posting up my new potential build soon for some opinions. Anyway, this site has been more than helpful and I figured it was about time for me to stop just lurking.
