  1. I remember you Ivy ! It's been a while.
  2. Hello everyone ! It's been a while since I posted here, thought I'd post my PC that's nearly "next-gen ready". Some of you may remember how I used to upgrade like crazy back in '11-'13 but I can assure you that doesn't happen anymore 11 months ago my PC was : Asus Strix 1080Ti 4770k at 4.5Ghz with a Corsair H105 2 x 8Gb Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400MHz DDR3 ASUS Maximus VI Hero Samsung 850 Pro 256Gb SSD, Samsung 850 Evo 1Tb SSD and Seagate 2Tb HDD Cooler Master Storm Trooper case A bunch of different case fans - some Cooler Master, some Corsair AF120s, some SP120s, an ML120 or two. Dell S2740L 1920x1080 60hz 27 inch monitor. Corsair AX860i I have been upgrading things gradually in anticipation for the "next-gen" games that will arrive after the PS5/Xbox Series X are released and I've realized that I have ended up with almost a completely different PC. My PC today, 19 October 2020 : MSI Gaming X Trio RTX3080 10Gb, with the MSI support bracket. 9900k at 5Ghz, 1.285v with a Corsair H105 in Push/Pull with Corsair ML120 fans. 2 x 16Gb Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 3200MHz CL16 DDR4 overclocked to 3400MHz CL17, with Corsair Vengeance Airflow cooler. ASUS Z390-E Strix Gaming motherboard Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1Tb NVME with Cryorig Frostbit M.2 cooler and Micron 1300 2Tb SSD Corsair 780T case Case fans - 2 x Corsair ML120 on the bottom, 4 x ML120 on the H105, 3 x ML120 on the top, 1xML140 on the rear Dell S2719DGF 2560x1440 144hz 27 inch G-Sync compatible monitor. Corsair AX860i The end-goal was to not have to upgrade/change anything for about 3 years, let's see if that works lol Updated photos with the RTX3080 !
  3. I recently upgraded from my 6 year old 4770k at 4.5Ghz and finally dialed in the clocks on my new 9900k - 5 GHz at 1.285v with LLC5 (AVX Offset 0). Cache ratio is 47x, memory is the stock 3200MHz CL16 (wont overclock at all without Memtest errors unfortunately, even with looser timings as well as more system agent and DRAM voltage). 5245pts.
  4. Happy new year everyone. I wish you all a wonderful 2020 :)

    COD Modern Wareare

I think I'm about halfway through the campaign. It's incredible, and already my favorite Call of Duty campaign. It feels similar to the old Modern Warfare campaigns but better and in-line with the modern terror threats that the world has faced with militant groups - the one level felt like it drew inspiration from the 2012 Benghazi embassy attack. The characters are memorable and unique. The graphics on PC are spectacular, and it's very well optimized - easily reaching 1440p/60 on a 1080Ti at max settings (wish RDR2 did the same). The weapons feel authentic, mounting up against cover feels natural. Breaching doors feels intense. Overall, I think it's really good

    Single player games

That's strange. Both the Steam forum and pcgamingwiki show that it should support 3440x1440. Try using Geforce Experience to optimize for that game and see if it sets the resolution correctly. Else try see if everything is correct in the cfg file : 1. Go to %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Arkane Studios\dishonored2\base\ 2. Right click and open dishonored2Config.cfg with a text editor and look for r_fullscreen 3. If present change value from 2 to 1 otherwise add r_fullscreen "1" manually at the end of the file and save. And check if the resolution is correct in the file too.

    Single player games

Contrary to all the reviews, I really enjoyed Far Cry 5. If you haven't played it yet, it is worth considering. Rage 2 is also a first person shooter singleplayer game set in a post apocalyptic world with some very good gunplay but the open world is not as full of life as the areas in Metro Exodus. It is however 50% off on Steam for the next couple days. I know Wolfenstein Youngblood came out this week, but it seems to be focused on more RPG elements and loot with bulletsponge enemies with levels like Far Cry New Dawn which I didn't like either. Borderlands 3 is also coming out in September but it's very much a RPG/loot based game which is very different to the games you mentioned. I also have to mention Assassins Creed Odyssey. It's a 3rd person open world RPG complete with dialog options. It was my favorite game last year but Greece is a huge open world and it takes a lot of time to finish, especially with the expansions (I think I'm at over 100 hours for the main game and expansion 1, haven't begun the Atlantis expansion yet which is probably another 15-20 hours)
  8. That was pretty informative. Never really paid much attention to heat pipes before. It's quite cool to see what the interior looks like, it's a lot rougher than I would've imagined.
  9. Welcome back They are both good choices. I see that one difference is that the Crucial MX500 500gb is warrantied for 5 years/150TBW whereas the Samsung 860 Evo 500gb is 5 years/300TBW. I would go for the Samsung. I'm currently using a Samsung 850 Pro 256gb and a Samsung 850 Evo 1Tb and have been impressed with them.
  10. I noticed that too. You have to click on the link "Back to original news post" and comment at the bottom of the article. It will then show up in both the comments section of the article and as a post in the thread located in the "OCC Front Page News" section.
  11. Looking forward to this. Loving the location, London looks great. The night lighting in the E3 demo looked incredible too.

    New Forum ??

Same. I tend to read more and post less these days. Wish I did that when I was a teenager On a side note, is it just me or is the text not very visible when you quote a post ? It's black on a dark blue background in the quote block while I'm typing this reply.

It's very CPU intensive in some areas. I was having dips into the low 50s on a 4770k @4.5GHz and overclocked 1080Ti at 1080p. Ended up using DSR and using half refresh rate vsync for 4K/30 on controller. Feels so much smoother. I'm normally a keyboard and mouse guy, but using controller in this game seems to be more enjoyable.

I feel that the excessive loading screens hurt the game a lot. Even on an SSD, they're still annoying and are present almost everywhere. After coming from Assassins Creed Odyssey, I was surprised to see a loading screen when I entered a cave in Anthem. I hear the Frostbite engine is far from ideal for open world games.
  15. Not anymore, being an adult is expensive
  16. Felt like entering the contest this year. Merry Christmas to everyone and hope you all have a great festive season
  17. Good to see you again, it's been a while
  18. I'd own and shoot more guns if I lived in the US, but since I'm from South Africa there's a lot of hoops to jump through to get a gun. (Like a 6+ month wait for your first gun, police have to interview at least 3 family members or friends or colleagues, handguns being 50% more expensive than the US price and double the price for rifles, can only own 200 rounds max per gun unless you join a club and shoot every month or two) I've got a Glock 26 Gen 4 that I carry whenever I leave the house, which I also use for my local club's competitions (and since I shoot regularly enough, the 200 round max doesn't apply to me) but I'm also going to be shooting IDPA BUG with it soon. I've also got a Taurus .38 Special snub revolver which was my first gun until I could afford a better gun. now I shoot the Glock much more than the revolver. Grandfather's got a FN 1910 in .380 that he last shot about 20 years ago. It was sitting in a gun shop's storage for about a decade, and somehow the front bushing got lost. Managed to find a replacement part at my local shop. Cleaned it thoroughly with Ballistol so now I just need to oil it and convince my 90 year old grandfather to come with me to the range so I can try it out.
  19. Maybe Titan A at $1500 and a 2080Ti releasing 8 months later at $999 ? And a 2080 at $799 since the x80 isn't usually a whole lot faster than the previous gen x80 Ti card.
  20. Great to see this again this year. Good luck to everyone who entered, and Merry Christmas to all
  21. Everyone here has said it's nothing to worry about, and you've had the same response on the other 6+ websites you've posted it on (somehow you even found your way to a South African classifieds forum where I recognized you under a different username). So, no worries.
  22. Tried it out for 2 hours. Enjoying it so far, but there's definitely room for improvement. - Character creator seems basic. Beards are lacking. - Tried out preset 9 on Fem Ryder, and lightened the skin color with a few changes It seems if you choose an black character preset and change the skin color, it still keeps the father as the original color. So that means the father is based off the preset you chose as a base for the custom character, and not based on the custom character themselves. Was odd having default Scott Ryder, with his white sister, and really African father. Would be nice if you could choose what the father looked like (not completely custom, just a simple preset for each race with the ability to change hair/eye color) - Also, the face might look good in the creator but bad in the real world. My custom Sara Ryder's mouth look a bit weird in some cutscenes. I changed to default Scott Ryder and it looked pretty good. - Default Scott Ryder is really growing on me. His facial expressions are miles ahead of default Sara. - The male voice actor is great. Really good. Was surprised it wasn't Troy Baker or Nolan North, because this guy sounds so much like them. - Combat is pretty fun. Cover is a lot like Ghost Recon Wildlands. - Combat FOV is way too restrictive. Had to up it two notches for it to be easier to find enemies and not be motion sick. - First map you explore feels a lot like an Inquisition map. Exploration definitely draws from Inquisition. Not necessarily a bad thing, I loved Inquisition (besides the "Collect 10" fetch quests). - Graphics are absolutely gorgeous. The cutscenes especially. The lighting on the armor and the condensation on the helmets are wow. - The world is incredibly detailed. So much detail in the surrounding mountains and environment. - Ultra preset doesn't max out lighting, effects and HBAO so you have to increase each of those by one notch to max it. - However this maxed out beauty comes at a price. Stable 60FPS at 1080p for 95% of the time on a GTX1080, with a slight dip once in a while but that may be because I was playing while the game is downloading. - Some bugs here and there. Like character models behaving inconsistently. Cora walks weirdly. - Characters also behave weirdly. In some of the opening stages, the other characters run far ahead of you as if they are in a rush to get to their destination, and it makes it feel unrealistic if you want to hang around and admire the scenery. The characters should follow you, or at least run ahead of you and stop if you stop - especially when you are having a conversation with them. - Facial expressions look weird sometimes. Odd, because previous MEs and Inquisition were really good at faces. Overall, I'm enjoying it. I really hope they fix the bugs and oddities though. It doesn't feel polished like a game that took 4+ years to make. I would probably wait for it to be polished in a patch or two, or for the likely special in the Summer Origin Sale if I wasn't a Mass Effect fan.
  23. I see there's a new trailer out (story spoilers) : So after 5 years we have : Jacob -> New Jacob with more hair Wrex -> New Wrex Garrus -> Female Garrus Ashley+Jack+ Pagan Min's hair -> Cora Morinth -> Teenage Morinth EDI -> S.A.M Plus a random Twilek. And just to make it feel more like ME2 you have a new Mordin on the ship. Feels like they filled a squad quota of "1 black guy, 1 white woman, 1 krogan, 1 turian, 1 asari, 1 A.I and 1 new specie". Also feels like a generic story of some big bad creepy alien dude with a weird voice that's totally not like Saren or Harbinger, right ? Not super hyped about the squad and story. Hopefully the planets look good.
  24. Confirmed : 21 March in NA and 23 March in EU !!! Source : https://www.masseffect.com/news/mass-effect-andromeda-coming-in-march
  25. Very hard to rank, but these are mine : 1. Delta Force Black Hawk Down (the game that drew me to FPS games) 2. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (the game that drew me to RPG games) 3. Mass Effect 1 (was just looking around a store towards the end of 2009 and spotted it in its yellow "EA Classics" form for a really cheap price, so I figured I might as well give it a go - I'm glad I did) 4. Dragon Age Origins 5. Elder Scrolls Skyrim (a really memorable game at the end of a difficult year)
