  1. Unfortunately I like my brain, so if he tries anything, we've got one less zombie friend.
  2. The minimum requirement for PhysX I think I saw somewhere was 32 shader or CUDA cores. Unfortunately I'm not certain about what is meant by max PhysX settings, because I've only ever seen it as on or off. In any case though, my GTS 250 is able to do PhysX and [email protected] at the same time without any issues, and both of those actions take the same cores, so a dedicated GTS 250 is more than enough. According to nVidia, the 9800GT has 112 CUDA cores while my GTS 250 has 128, so I'm thinking the 9800GT will do fine. There will also be a difference in the clock speeds, but that can be easily adjusted, if needed.
  3. Fortunately there are ways to auto-refresh.
  4. Unfortunately such power is an illusion, as another can restart the thread, if desired.
  5. Unfortunately my overly analytical mind is now mulling over the oxymoron of "damn good."
  6. Not sure why, but I just feel like asking. Does the winner of the motherboard also get a Metro 2033 code?
  7. Windows should have baked in generic drivers for ethernet ports. It wouldn't be a bad idea to have the drivers with you, but Windows Update normally finds them for me (though I don't install them). As far as set up, ethernet has always been plug and play for me, unless the router I'm connecting to has security, like MAC filtering or is password protected, but those steps shouldn't be any different than setting up wireless. You do realize the internet was wired first, right? I personally prefer wired because it can be considerably faster, more stable, and more secure.
  8. Well, in that case; Phone: 512MB RAM + 512 ROM, total 1GB Graphing Calculator: 16MB (and I've crashed it! twice it restarted third time, it couldn't even do that and yes, I am proud of that)
  9. ONE DAY BLUEPANDA JOINED OCC. Unfortunately, The next day the OCC servers crashed. Fortunately, Bosco saved the day and promised everyone money for the inconvenience. But now Bosco's bankrupt and can't run OCC anymore. (Sorry Bosco.) Fortunately Bosco won the Canadian lottery and now has enough money to keep OCC running Unfortunately his mother in law gets half./Unfortunately by time Bosco paid taxes on the money he won there was nothing left... So he puts together an emergency contest to raffle off his computer, at one dollar a ticket. Unfortunately, no one wants it. fortunately I will bid if Panda becomes a Gamecock fan/Fortunately, the scientists are willing to buy all of the tickets because his PC runs on the mythical "sexy power" Unfortunately, Panda remains true to Clemson... (Sorry Bosco) But Bosco forgives Panda and gives her his computer to show it (very nice Bosco, now that's how you accept an apology!) Unfortunately he forgot to supply the power cables But Panda already has a cable.[Aw snap!] As she connects it all up, there's a freak lightning strike, so BluePanda considers changing her name to BurntPanda, but the computer won't start up again Fortunately, her PSU is still under warranty. Unfortunately she forgot that she had to change the PSU fan and that voided her warrenty. Fortunately she has mad skills and used an old toaster to fashion a new psu. But some peanut butter had melted from a toast and fallen into it long ago. Fortunately, Dariuas swoops in to save the day, dressed as a mild mannered citizen, he does some mystic crap, and reverts OCC back to the original state it was in before you guys started messing with the space time continum. Unfortunately he lost the keys to his time traveling delorean...... /Unfortunately, drunken Dariuas was only dreaming -- and awoke to a wet bed... (sorry dariuas) So here comes Bender with many bricks for breaking a car's window. But upon opening the car he realizes he's out of fissionable plutonium (it's the older model) and can't go anywhere before further realizing he doesn't know how to spell fissionable plutonium, Dariuas awakes from his dream.

Honestly though, I don't know how I'd work with it.
  12. Now this is getting interesting! Which line to use... Well, at least they aren't mutually exclusive. So he puts together an emergency contest to raffle off his computer, at one dollar a ticket.
  13. But now Bosco's bankrupt and can't run OCC anymore. (Sorry Bosco.)
  14. AM3+ I think is what I've heard, so it's compatible with AM3, like AM2+ to AM2 and AM3. I would expect a chipset with the new processors though, and not just for the newer socket. Oh, this should be an interesting release!
  15. This could get very interesting, depending on who gets involved. ONE DAY BLUEPANDA JOINED OCC. The next day the OCC servers crashed. Okay, not interesting yet, but what can be after one line?
  16. Not "would be more than the 480" two 460's just are more than a 480. Amazing SLI Scaling: Do Two GeForce GTX 460s Beat One GTX 480? First time they've seen either SLI or Crossfire meet (actually surpass) 100% scaling.
  17. Maybe this is why? Well, I prefer AMD myself, so this may be bias. The reviews I've seen for the Phenom II x6 CPUs have been quite positive, when the price is factored in. Intel's six core offerings are better, but are so expensive. Also what I've seen is that, essentially, the 1090T is the only six core AMD that's worth it. Not to say the others aren't good, but that only the top line really competes well even with the x4's out there, but that's in part because not much takes advantage of 4 cores, let alone 6. So don't rule out a four core, if you need to save money. Also I've seen that the 1090T, stock 3.2GHz was upped to 3.4GHz without having to change voltage or getting much more heat. Though I don't have one, I'd recommend the 460 too. I've seen so many good reviews that I'm really tempted to get one (just waiting to save up money, and to see what else the G104 is put in). I am extremely satisfied with my 5770, in case that helps, but if you have the option, you should probably go 460. Good luck with quitting smoking.
  18. 4GB in desktop, 3GB in laptop Professional video editors. Film restoration/remastering. Film quality computer generated graphics. Medical research. Physicists. Mathematicians. A Mathematical Solution for Another Dimension: Random science knowledge; some people got it, and some people don't. PS. Fine, that quote refers to a supercomputer, but you get the idea.
  19. Here's the contest, for those of you that haven't found it but are watching this thread. MSI Contest Good luck everyone.
  20. Here's my Asus M4A785TD-V EVO (okay, not exactly "mine," but it's what I've got) Now, what do I like about the MSI board. Let me see: the included audio card for better audio is definitely a plus for me SATA III and USB 3, for future proofing 8 total SATA ports (I've got five, not counting eSATA, and they're all used) SLI or Crossfire support (I've only got Hybrid Crossfire, so this is an improvement) Both SLI and Crossfire support (not something AMD chipsets allow) Tri SLI or Quad Crossfire high quality components NO IDE port, so that frees up some room such a plethora of BIOS options I'd probably need the manual with me whenever I look at it an Intel motherboard, because Intel CPUs supposedly fold better (that's what it would be doing most of the time, if I got it) the OC Genie, which as I'm still a little new/cautious with overclocking would probably be useful built with overclocking in mind, so I probably wouldn't have to worry about it failing on me the external box for monitoring the motherboard would be great, so I can ease myself when trying to overclock and worrying if it's going to melt Well, that's all I could think of. Good luck to everyone!
  21. +1 Really not worth folding on an ATi card that old. Still, if you want, post the client.cfg files from both folders and we can take a look. If the computer is confusing the two cards then that would cause an unstable_machine error (ATi cards can't fold nVidia work units and vice versa).
  22. Wait until Sunday when they tell us how.
  23. And now my overly analytical mind activates and this is what it comes up with. If you are doing homework then you are obviously a student. It should be a reasonable assumption that you are either a high school or college student. If you are a high school student you may not have a great amount of income and may be trying to save up for going to college, so get the more powerful option of two 5770's (best bang for the buck). If you are a college student then again you may not have a great income because of tuition, text books, possibly room and board, so again, get the two 5770's for crossfire, as it is the better bang for the buck, at the immediate moment. So my vote has changed to two 5770's; they will, performance wise, give you what you want.
