    OCC Twitch Stream

Have this week's video uploading now. Spent longer in it than usual as I hunted not only for the Armageddon Sword Shards but also for the missing Abyssal Armor pieces I needed. Good set up for next week, I think. It will go live at the usual time.

  3. Another announcement that came last night at The Game Awards was that for Godfall, which will be coming to the Epic Games Store and PlayStation 5 in late 2020. Coming from Counterplay Games and Gearbox Publishing, this is meant to be a looter-slasher featuring third-person melee combat designed to engage players as they hunt for the next piece of gear. The developers also intend to provide fresh take on action RPGs with the game, by rewarding skill-based offensive gameplay and having every hit matter. It will support playing alone or in a go-op group of up to three players.     Source: Gearbox Publishing Back to original news post
  4. At last night's The Game Awards there were numerous new game reveals and one of them came from the co-creators of Dishonored and Prey and their WolfEye Studios. Weird West is an action RPG experience that is set in a version of the developing West where it is not just the lawmen and the gunslingers to watch out for, but fantastical creatures too. The game will follow the origin stories of a group of atypical heroes, with their legend written by the decisions you make. We do not have a release date yet, but you are already able to add it to your wishlist on Steam.     Source: Press Release Back to original news post
  5. It was in October when AMD originally announced its Radeon RX 5500 series of GPUs, then saying they would be coming first to laptops and pre-built desktops with discrete graphics cards coming later. Later has arrived as the AIB models are available now for this 1080p class GPU. Like the RX 5700 series, the RX 5500 XT uses a Navi GPU with AMD's new RDNA architecture, which means it is also built using a 7 nm process and utilizes PCIe 4.0. It only features 22 compute units though, and a Boost Clock of up to 1845 MHz, though the Game Clock, what you can expect on average in many games, is 1717 MHz. Its MSRP starts at $169 as that is for a version with 4 GB of GDDR6 while the 8 GB version starts at $199. It might not be as powerful as the RX 5700 series and is not the top-end Navi GPU many are eagerly expecting, but when all you need is good performance for 1080p gaming, AMD has a new offering to consider. 6. For those looking at doing custom liquid cooling, EK has announced new cylindrical pump-reservoir combo units that may be of interest to you. These new units are part of the EK-Quantum Kinetic TBE D5 line and represent an improvement on the EK-XRES Revo generation of units. The new Quantum units sport twice as many ports on them, including having three on the top, with one having a nickel-played brass tube pre-installed. If this is use as an inlet, the tube will help prevent splashing as that can allow air to be pulled in by the pump and foaming of the coolant. There are four versions of the Quantum Kinetic TBE D5 combo units, based on the material used and the reservoir length. You can get them with the reservoir being 200 mm or 300 mm long and with the pump housing being clear plexi or black acetal. All four also have 5 V addressable RGB LEDs so you can have them light up to match other RGB-illuminated components in your system. Both the acetal and plexi versions of the Quantum Kinetic TBE 200 D5 pump-reservoir combo units are priced at $189.99 and both versions of the Quantum Kinetic TBE 300 D5 units are $209.99. 7. Stardock has released a benchmark today using Star Control: Origins as its basis. In it the game's lander follows a path over a planet that is being generated at the time, to increase the load on the CPU. Managing to push both the CPU and GPU was a goal for this benchmark as it is also meant to show the impact DirectX 12 and Vulkan low-level APIs can have on performance compared to DirectX 11. The low-level APIs allow for better utilization of the CPU as multiple threads can send commands to the GPU at the same time. The benchmark also features an option to further push the CPU by placing hundreds of physics objects in the lander's path that it crashes through, but this is disabled by default. Another feature of the benchmark is the addition of FidelityFX sharpening, which is shown in the screenshots below. Brad Wardell, Stardock's CEO, comments that with how large an impact it has on the visuals, he was skeptical it would be performance free, but indeed, "it appears to have no performance impact while delivering noticeable improvements to visual clarity." The benchmark is free to download and its results can be submitted for others to see online here: Star Control: Origins Benchmark.     For anyone curious, here are the results I got with my desktop. (CPU: AMD Threadripper 1950X and GPU: Radeon RX 580) API Mean Frame Rate Mean CPU Frame Rate DirectX 11 51.72 51.72 DirectX 12 56.22 148.77 Vulkan 54.41 151.03 Source: Stardock Back to original news post

  9. HandyGames and Paintbucket Games have announced the release date for the upcoming historical resistance strategy game, Through the Darkest of Times. Set in 1933's Germany, you will lead a resistance group against the Nazis by gathering information, spying on the Nazis, sabotaging, painting messages on walls, and spreading pamphlets to reveal the truth. You must be careful though, as exposure will place every member of the resistance in grave danger. A single and small resistance group at this time will not change what we know as history, but the game is meant to convey the grim mood and the real struggles the average people suffered living in the Third Reich at this time. Through the Darkest of Times releases on January 30 for PC and Mac.     Source: HandyGames Back to original news post

    New Stability tester found.

Same. Could be a weird combination including EGS though, or something else entirely. For example, recently after a restart the fans in my computer were running a bit high for idle. Nothing unusual temperature wise, and they weren't running louder than they would with an actual load, but doing so at idle, so I left it. Restarted earlier today (installing the new AMD drivers) and they are as quiet as they normally are.

  13. Anno 1800 has received its third DLC today, titled The Passage, and it is the largest content release for the game. In this DLC, players will get to go to the frozen North where harsh weather conditions will challenge players and likely require some rethinking layouts, thanks to the new heating mechanic. Residents will need to be kept warm and health for success. This DLC will also allow players to construct fleets of airships to accelerate trade throughout their empire. Additionally you will find two new citizen tiers, seven new production chains, 32 new buildings, 60 quests, 80 items, and more. If you have the game but not the season pass The Passage is a part of, there is a free update that adds a new co-op mode and an in-depth statistics system. With the co-op mode, you will be able to work with friends to raise and manage your empire. Up to four factions can compete in the same match of up to 16 players with this. The statistics system delivers stats on production and consumption for goods across all your islands. For those without a copy, but interested in Anno 1880, it will be free to play on both Uplay and the Epic Games Store, covering Tier 1 to Tier 3. For the holiday season, a new Holiday Pack DLC is available to add festive carousels, Christmas trees, snowmen, lanterns, and more for transforming your cities.     Source: Anno 1800 – The Passage DLC Out Now, Play for Free Dec. 11-18 Back to original news post
  14. During Nintendo's Indie World Showcase today, developers Dotemu, Lizardcube, and Guard Crush Games announced Adam Hunter will be among the playable characters for Street of Rage 4. Along with the news comes a trailer showcasing his re-design and his return once players unlock him during the game's story mode. He is able to leverage screen-clearing combos and a dash ability, both unique to him, and we can see this on display in the trailer as he fights alongside his daughter Cherry as well as Axel and Blaze. Streets of Rage 4 will be the first mainline entry in the series for over 25 years when it launches for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.     Source: Press Release Back to original news post

  18. It is that time of the year when AMD likes to release its major driver update that typically adds new features. Previous examples of this would include when the company rebuilt the interface, added ReLive for capturing and streaming gameplay, and added Radeon Chill for reducing GPU power consumption. At the moment the drivers are not out yet for the public, pending WHQL package certification, but some in the press have gotten access and the press deck revealing all of the new features and changes. Among the changes is a new UI, which looks rather significant and will also be available in-game, for those times you want to tweak things while playing. The AMD Link app will apparently also get this new design. Before seeing that or anything else though, the installer has been updated to make it faster, use an improved factory reset, and keep your settings between installations. Radeon Image Sharpening has gotten some tweaks, including that it now supports DX11 games, the ability to control its sharpness, and you can turn it on and off in game. Those looking forward to integer scaling in Radeon drivers now have it, and it works with every GCN-based graphics card and newer on Windows 10. The Tuning Tab has seen some changes too, though apparently the underlying functionality has not. Radeon Anti-Lag has gained DirectX 9 support for graphics cards prior to the RX 5000 series and can be activated globally. One feature you will likely see a lot about is Radeon Boost. Exactly as the name suggests, it will boost performance in games, but what makes it interesting is it achieves this by dynamically reducing the resolution scaling based on mouse movement. It sounds like it is applying psychovisuals similar to how some video encoders do by reducing the resolution, and thus the detail, at times of high motion, when you are less likely to notice it, but when there is less motion, it does not reduce the resolution. It assumes motion by tracking mouse movements though, and not some actual analysis of the image or injection into the render pipeline, but you can set the minimum scale, so the resolution does not go too low. It also only supports eight games at the moment, limiting its usefulness but that will likely change in the future. It does work with Polaris and newer GPUs on Windows 7 and Windows 10. Another curious feature that is apparently not targeting consumers is support for DirectML media filters. These filters use machine learning to apply things such as noise reduction and upscaling for videos, but is not a Radeon Settings feature. Still, it is an interesting addition that is perhaps laying the foundation for the future. Hopefully it will not be long before the drivers can go public as I for one am looking forward to getting into them. Source: VideoCardz and TechPowerUp Back to original news post
  19. PlatinumGames and Square Enix have finally released a teaser trailer for Babylon's Fall, an upcoming title from their partnership. This trailer not only shows off the fluid, action-filled gameplay, but also the art style based on the Brushwork Filter. It was revealed as part of the latest PlayStation State of Play but the game is also coming to Steam next Summer.     Source: Square Enix Back to original news post
  20. Today The Wild Gentlemen and HandyGames have announced a new game we can expect next year titled Chicken Police: Paint It Red. It features Sonny Featherland and Marty MacChicken as they team up again to solve a mystery in Clawville as the Chicken Police. Inspired by classic film-noire movies from the 40's, but featuring various animals, this game will have you interact with over 30 unique characters, and some requiring fierce interrogation tactics to get the information you need out of them to solve the mystery. Clues, evidence, and sensitive personal information will be needed to use against the shady characters of the city as part of this grim story with absurd humor. Chicken Police: Pant It Red will be releasing in 2020 for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.     Source: HandyGames Back to original news post

  23. Fans of the BioShock series might be rather pleased with this news; 2K has founded a new studio, Cloud Chamber, and it is working on the next iteration for the franchise. Having offices in both Novato, California and Montreal, Quebec, this will be 2K's first studio with a Canadian office. Kelley Gilmore, who has 22 years in the industry and shipped over 40 games will be the Global Studio Head for Cloud Chamber, making her the first woman to launch and lead a development studio for 2K. Previously she worked at Firaxis Games, another 2K studio, on franchises including Sid Meier's Civilization and XCOM. As she will be based in Novato, she has tapped Ken Schachter to be the Montreal office Studio Manager and serve as an ambassador for Cloud Chamber and 2K to establishing a greater presence in Montreal.
