  1. Hey, that game America's Army kicks butt!!!
  2. Hey, that genuine screenshot comes from a hardware makeover - fixed, but happy to entertain anyway. ok, just so you know, i did try the personalization/display tweak before, but I didn't change the IE setting which decreases to 67% so I didn't think that was the fix. I'm happy with my desktop now, but my login page still has the increased DPI. Any idea how to remedy that? thanks for the help.
  3. Greeting's all, I'll try to be brief, even though I don't even know how to really explain this. I've included a few attachment's. They're either my old resolution with a nice crisp and sharp a la CRT monitor image, or they're the big, ugly and bubbly resolution image that I'm currently stuck with. my cool old res my cool old res my cool old res my new ugly res my new ugly res my new ugly res my new ugly res I reinstalled Windows, and I can't get my old res back no matter what I've tried. Is there something wrong with my graphics card or is it just some evil hidden setting that has thus far eluded me?!?! Please, if someone's come across this issue before, help; thank you all for taking the time to read this. I'm close to desperate here.
  4. This would be my 2nd RMA. Perhaps I just picked the wrong card with FTW Edition, but maybe I'll get lucky with one of my RMA's. Thanks all. As far as my NB goes, it's burning up too. I have the eVGA X58 3X SLI Classified motherboard. It's great and from what I understand the NB does tend to run a little hot, and I'm sure that's not helping my graphics card either, but I just bought the EK-FB-EVGA X58 Classified Waterblock so that should help tons. I'm making some progress about which card I need to buy, now it's just a matter of deciding which one to go with. My choices are EK, DangerDen, Swiftech and then there's the Heatkiller one. That's the most expensive one. Does anyone have a preference for either of the preceding? Anyone have any experience or thoughts on the Heatkiller waterblock? Thanks again.
  5. Yes! Definitely, I really like these blocks. I think I might actually go with one of them as soon as I'm sure that I have the right version, the right tubing and the right barbs. Sigh. I'll get there eventually. Thanks for the link.
  6. oh right - I have the eVGA GTX 285 FTW. I used the eVGA precision app and did 2 things - I underclocked the card to 685 which I think is ridiculous that I'd have to do that because I paid for the FTW. Oh well. And, I gave the fan some extra juice - I'm running at about 80 c. while playing Borderlands - I played for about 30 min. It usually crashes some time about then, but I'll have to see if the fixes help. My next move would be to replace the stock thermal paste with some arctic silver 5 and see if that helps any. I'd really like to get a waterblock for this card though. I'm also using the eVGA X58 Classified motherboard, and the heatsink is HUGE. Anyway, I just bought the EK-FB EVGA X58 Classified waterblock because my NB was burning up. I'll wait to install it in case I end up getting a VGA waterblock so I can just do everything at once. Thanks again.
  7. whoa - good stuff man. thank you very much. i'm trying to tweak a few things, and it looks like to see the reference number i'd have to remove the card from my rig, so it'll have to wait for a bit. thank you again for your help - outstanding!!!
  8. As long as I'm here, I'd like to take advantage of the community's expertise. So, I have a eVGA GTX 285 FTW Edition graphics card. Part # 01G-P3-1182-AR. It's ok, I guess, but it runs a little hot. First of all, in the part number, does the '01G' mean it's a 1st gen card? And more importantly, I need an awesome waterblock with full coverage that will fit (is compatible) with this particular graphics card. Thanks in advance for your help.
  9. Thanks for the reply. So, your're saying that if I use 7/16" tubing, then I should use the 1/2" barbs? Just making sure. The thing is that I already installed the kit so it's difficult for me to get an accurate measurement, and there aren't any leftovers for me to measure, but I wanted to get the same measurements to add a VGA waterblock and a NB/SB waterblock. In other words, I would like to use same size tubing and barbs I used on the Swiftech kit, but I just don't know what sizes they are. Anyway, thanks again for your help.
  10. Greetings, So, I bought a cpu liquid cooling kit for my computer. Everything's gone surprisingly well ..., so well in fact that I've decided to watercool the rest of my computer. First of all, I bought the Swiftech H20-220 Ultima XT liquid cooling kit. I don't know how you guys feel about this kit, but it worked for me. I'd say, a nice rookie/noob liquid cooling kit. Anyway, in the manual, it says that the included tubing is 7/16" ID (5/8" OD) tubing, but I don't think that's right. The tubing is much bigger. It seems like the tubing is much thicker than that, and I'd like to match that tubing and then get the right barbs that go with the tubing. So, what barbs would I need to match the larger tubing that comes with the kit. And furthermore, how do I know what barbs fit a particular tubing. If anyone has this particular cooling kit please help me explain because I seem to be doing an awful lot of mumbling here; if anyone can figure out what I'm trying to say, you rule the universe!
  11. And furthermore, I just got a big fat bonus. Do I have to apologize for wanting top of the line stuff? Fine!!! Excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
  12. Let me just say, that in no way did I mean to create any dissension amongst what I'm sure are very nice people. Also, these are the most replies I've ever received in a forum, so I'm kind of happy about that. I appreciate everyone's opinion, thank you very much. Those who agree'd with me, great. Those that didn't agree, also great. Those that were rude, bite me! I'm undecided about what I'm going to do. Perhaps I'll go with the 920. Maybe, I'll wait for the 975 to drop in price. It's also possible that I just might wait for the Gulftown's release. In answer to the question about what I plan to do with the processor, I'll say, "I'm using it to model the formation of proto-stars in the early universe." That, and I'm playing an awful lot of Pong and Minesweeper. Thank you to Ccokeman - well said - and thanks to the Marshmallow Man for his kind words. Carry on gamer's and gamette's!
  13. First of all, there are ways to offer advice without sounding condescending. Second of all, I couldn't care less about impressing anyone, I simply asked a question. It's nice that you stick up for your buddy, and I don't care if you're an administrator, but your attitude sucks!!! Let's see, you said you're not stupid enough to blow that much money on something that will be outdated in a couple of months. I'm sure you feel the same away about, oh, I don't know, why shower today? I'm just going to get dirty. Why exercise? I'll just have to keep exercising to stay in shape. Why learn a new skill? I'll just have to practice all the time to improve myself. Why buy a new CPU, I'll just have to by another one? Why bother doing anything? Nice attitude buddy.
