  1. Yea actually I've just been reading up on some people who seem to be getting pretty close even with both Nvidia and AMD trying to hinder their progress. Article - http://www.tomshardware.com/news/nvidia-ph...4.html#comments Forum - http://www.ngohq.com/graphic-cards/15316-a...-vaporizes.html
  2. So I've read someone's post that successfully played Mirrors Edge on their HD 4870 with an old 8800GTS in their second PCIex16 taking care of Physx. My question is would buying a cheap 8400gs be sufficient enough to take care of Physx enabled games so the load isn't put on my CPU? I want to play Mirrors Edge with Physx but I've heard it pretty much turns into a slideshow at some points without an Nvidia gpu. Opinions?
  3. yea thats a pretty good board but I'm not really looking to push this Phenom II to its "limits". I just want a good stable OC without raising the voltage much if any at all.
  4. This is being purchased tonight so I need some last minute insight to make sure this looks good to everyone. This is for gaming and video editing and I think it fits the bill. Phenom II X4 940 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDet...st=Combo.153681 BIOSTAR TFORCE TA790GX - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDet...st=Combo.153681 G.SKILL 4GB 2x2GB 800MHz - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231122 OCZ GameXStream 700W - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817341002 SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 4870 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814102810 Tell me what you think and feel free to critique. I can't raise the price anymore so if you change something be sure it's within budget. Thanks Edit: forgot to mention that all other parts needed are already purchased. Will upgrade to Crossfired 4870's in future. Other parts: 19" Acer 1680x1050 5ms 640GB WD Caviar
  5. Will a 700W PSU be enough to adequately power my new system? Phenom 2 X4 940 (moderate overclock) TFORCE TA790GX 4GB DDR2 800MHz (2 sticks) Crossfired HD 4870's 1 or 2 7200rpm HDD's 1 TV Tunercard Here is my PSU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817341002 Thx in advance
  6. Yea, I just came into another $35 so I upgraded to a 940. So this issue should be resolved Getting the Phenom 2 X4 940 and BIOSTAR TForce TA790GX - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813138128 got a combo deal for those, $40 off I'm already aware of the BIOS issue too but I've come across the fix so its all good.
  7. I am planning on buying the same board and was hearing about this stuff. However I looked it up and it turns out the BIOS update that allows for Phenom 2's detects the wrong voltage and sets it too low. Many people were BSOD while installing their OS. If you set the CPU to 1.35v stock you should have smooth sailing.
  8. I just read a review on the Phenom 2's as I am planning on purchasing the 920 version. However, this review said that the P2's don't like it when you raise the FSB and you will typically run into problems when doing so. I want to overclock my P2 but seeing as the only way to do so on the 920 is by FSB increases, I am worried I won't be able too. Has anyone heard anything about this being true or not, or maybe its just an isolated case? Also if anyone has any sites that show Phenom 2 920 overclocks plz link me up. thx review:: http://www.techspot.com/review/142-phenom2...king/page8.html
  9. what is the life expectancy running the E8400 at 4GHz? Is it any lower or will that mostly be determined by how cool I'm able to keep the cpu and what voltage?
  10. I'm thinking of using that $20 and adding in another $10 to get a decent cooler if there is one for about that amount. I think the Arctic Cooler 7 or w/e is about that range is it not?
  11. I just found out i can get a deal with this same motherboard and spending only $5 more for an E8500 or $10 more for a Q6600. Worth it over an E8400? I know the Q6600 is a good chip but is it worth a $10 jump? and with the E8500 i can get a slightly higher OC if I wanted
  12. yea... i know this is like my third post now but I think i've really settled on something I like so here it is. E8400 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115037 Sapphire HD 4870 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814102810 BIOSTAR TForce TP45HP - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813138123 Kingston HyperX 4GB 2 x 2GB 1066 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820104038 OCZ GameXStream 700W - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817341002 COOLER MASTER Elite 330 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811119115 Total Price is $679.57 including shipping, under my $700 cap. My already bought parts are: WD 640GB Caviar 19" 1680x1050 Monitor keyboard/mouse Vista Ultimate 64bit This computer is mainly for gaming and moderate video editing so I think I've found a good balance between the two. I decided to drop the quad to help with getting a 4870 over a 4870 to improve my gaming performance and then in the future add in a second 4870. If you have any better ideas for parts or know of any better deals feel free to share them as I'm open to changes as long as I keep within my cap. Also if anyone can find something to spend that $20 on that'd be cool too. Thx in advance
  13. Well I sat down and thought about it and I think it would be best in my case to go with an E8400 since a quad core wouldn't be the most ideal chip for gaming anyways. I should get a higher framerate with the E8400 and a higher OC, plus I'm saving a little bit more and now I can go with an HD 4870. I've updated the first post so tell me what you guys think of my new direction.
  14. this is outdated now i have a new thread post here... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820104038
  15. Due to Intel jacking the prices back up on the Q9400 I had picked out I have come down to two options for my build. #1 - Go with the Phenom 2 X4 920 and a choice of 3 motherboards. GIGABYTE GA-MA790GP-DS4H - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDet...st=Combo.155233 MSI K9A2 Platinum - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDet...st=Combo.153854 MSI DKA790GX Platinum - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDet...st=Combo.153855 I myself am leaning towards the K9A2 for obvious reasons (quad crossfire support), being as this will keep me from having to do any serious upgrades for a while as I can just throw in another 4850 or other 4800 series card. #2 - Q6600 and the BIOSTAR TForce TP45HP - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDet...st=Combo.152180 Both sets will come out to the same price so this is all based on how many features and what performance I'm getting from any of these setups. Tell me what you think and feel free to tweak anything you see as long as it doesn't raise the price any. This computer will be for gaming and moderate video editing. Also, how many HD 4850's do you think this 700W would be able to support in my system? The rest of my parts include... OCZ GameXStream 700W - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817341002 4 GB 2 x 2GB Kingston HyperX 1066 5-5-5-15 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820104038 Centurion 5 Case a 120mm and 80mm fans for extra cooling Already Own - Acer 19" 1680x1050 5ms LCD keyboard/mouse Vista Ultimate 64bit 640GB WD Caviar Thanks in advance!!! #3 (my favorite thus far) E8400 - $165 SAPPHIRE HD 4870 - $190 same motherboard as Q6600
  16. i would love too but right now im on a strict $700 budget, and right now all totaled im at $699.12
  17. but if you aren't running the RAM at its maximum speed won't I be able to tweak those timings down a little? I'm not planning on hitting 4.2GHz with that Q9400 tho this motherboard could prolly pull it off cause it looks to be a beast at OC'n.
  18. I have updated my RAM to 1066 seeing as it will still fit in my budget and will allow a higher OC. Worth the extra $5?
  19. I'm about a week and a half away from purchase date and have been hunting around for parts for some time now. Currently my price cap sits at $700. This is for the tower only parts including cpu, gpu, mobo, ram, case, psu. I think I have a pretty good build picked out right now so tell me what you guys think. This will be for gaming and video editing. Q9400 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDet...st=Combo.152182 BIOSTAR TForce TP45HP - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDet...st=Combo.152182 G.SKILL 4GB DDR2 800 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231122 or G.SKILL 4GB DDR2 1066 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231226 OCZ GameXStream 700W - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817341002 HIS Hightech Radeon HD 4850 IceQ4 Turbo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814161244 COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811119047 120mm - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835200048 80mm - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835150007 This drops me in at $694.12 after shipping is applied. I am planning on buying another HD 4850 later on which is why I have the crossfire motherboard. I already have 64bit Vista Ultimate, a 19" Acer 1680x1050 5ms LCD, keyboard/mouse, DVD Burner, 640GB Harddrive. I plan on overclocking, not knowing how far I will get with the stock heatsink but that is something I will upgrade down the road also if needed. I'm not looking to do any serious overclocking, something like 3.2GHz or in that area will be fine (which is as high as 800MHz RAM will allow me to go). Think the stock cooling will be up to that? The two fans, the 120mm will be mounted on the vga vent and the 80mm will take the place of the cpu funnel ma gig. Tell me what you think. Thx
  20. so would this be a more acceptable PSU in your opinion? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817182149
  21. I am planning on building my first system in about 2 weeks. So far my parts are... E7400 2.8GHz 3MB BIOSTAR TForce TP45HP LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-630SS 630W ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Modular LED Power Supply HIS Hightech H485QT512P Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported IceQ4 Turbo Video Card COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UB Black /Blue Aluminum Bezel , SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case The rest of the parts i already own including... 19" Acer 1680x150 LCD 5ms 2GB 667MHz DDR2 Standard Mouse/Keyboard DVD-RAM etc... My real question however, is with my current setup I am leaving room to upgrade to a second HD 4850 later down the road but, will an E7400 be up to the task to keeping up with two HD 4850's? I am planning on overclocking, but nothing too serious. With my current ram i could pull off about 3.5GHz (probably not on stock cooling but that can be fixed) which would be probably be around as high as I would go. Will the E7400 bottleneck at stock and/or overclocked? Thx
  22. I have had this Dell E310 for a while now, it currently has a Pentium 4 521 2.8GHz with Hyperthreading installed. I was wondering if it would be possible to install a new processor such as the E2200. It has the same FSB and has a lower TDP. My question is if that will work and how much of a performance gain will i see in gaming and video rendering? Enough to justify the purchase? Even if this does not work I'm planning on installing the E2200 in my new rig im getting a month or two down the road as a temporary processor until i save up for a good quad. What are your thoughts? Motherboard model according to CPU-z is 0JC474. Chipset is the Intel i915/i915G Rev. B1 I have an updated BIOS version of A04 from 04/04/2006. Current CPU config is a 200MHz Bus speed rated at 800MHz with a 14x multiplier. My powersupply is rated at 230W tho it seems to be doing much better than that. I currently have an HD 2400 Pro PCI installed that wants a 300W minimum and I have had it OC'd during gaming to 821MHz over 445MHz stock. I have been doing this for about a month and a half now. Thx for the help in advance!! If you need any more info just ask.
