    Good grades = car

I didn't learn to drive till I was 19. My Father gave me a 1983 Ford Bronco for my first vehicle. That truck was indestructible, guzzled gas and parts and best of all taught me how to work on cars. I know you probably won't listen to any of the down to earth stuff in this thread, but remember that with age comes something called maturity and it applies to all aspects of your life.

    Watchmen (2009)

Saw it Saturday night last and it was awesome! I've been meaning to read the novel for years and now I can't wait any longer so it's on to Amazon for me. Great flick even if you don't know the book though even if it was a bit over the top for some.

    Video Card suggestions

The 9800GTX+ is no longer overpriced because of the upcoming release of the GTS 250. I also would not say it is a mid level gaming card more like a casual gamer/media card, but still not really worth putting in an htpc unless one got it really cheap.

What song was #1 on the day you were born.

US:Beat It-Michael Jackson (shoulda seen that coming) UK: True-Spandu Ballet (who the hell is that?) AUS:Billy Jean-Michael Jackson (after US I saw this one coming) Well I didn't think it would be that great, but those 2 old MJ tunes aren't bad. As for the UK one I have no clue what song that is so it must really suck. On an up note though I share a birthday with the late Albert King (if you don't know who this is smack yourself then go find out) and Stu Cook (the bassist from Credence Clearwater Revival). B:)

    English is Easy?

I love #11! And yes this does give one to think about, especially if you are an American with a certain lack of wit and culture. If you are like me though it reads quite easily. Or maybe I just have a twisted mind because I think in this vein incessantly? I don't know or care how you look at it. The English language is what it is because it has been stretched across the globe, and like-wise, across many cultures therefore, it is logical to have words in English with so many meanings and varied pronunciations. ^_^

First time building my own rig

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 750GB for $79.99 Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 750GB for $62.99 Segate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB for $49.99 And yes Geeks.com is a respectable company. I have bought from them many times and I have always been impressed with shipping times and the quality of even their cheepest products. Those are all fast, quiet and reliable performers. My little brother just got the 500 for his first build that he is slowly getting parts for.

First off I was wondering why that particular HDD? I can't see that its any faster and it costs more than a decent 750. Also I would like to dissuade you from buying XFX, their customer service is a shambles. It took them over a month to tell me the obvious update-driver, make sure it has power etc. bs and I never figured out what was wrong the problems just went away. My other thoughts are that if you build this system maybe you'lll come around on just playing WoW. Maybe, you'll purchase the orange box on Steam and be cured in all of 2 hours.

    New Case

:thumbs-up: +1 for Cooler Master, because I really like their cases. They have a great build quality and most of them look stylish too. I haven't work with the Cosmos personally, but from what I've seen on teh interwebz it is big. Of I remember right you can even mount a rad in the top no problem. B:)

+1 for the EVGA GTX260 216 core and are you sure you need 1TB? Found this Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 750GB for $79.99 or the 7200.10 for $62.99. Honestly though if it were me I'd just get a 500GB like this and buy a second when I ran out of room. Are you going to be re-using your OS from your current machine? I would if its Win XP and has a movable key-code. Good luck. :thumbs-up:

    Recommendations for an RPG

+1 for Fallout3 +1 for Elder Scrolls, though I lean towards Oblivion as Morrowind is a tad too old skool. Guild Wars (any and all of its expansions)- A great mmorpg that usually gets overlooked. No subscription ever, and you can install/play it on as many machines as you like just like steam games. Also.... though I am hesitant to say this, you could play WoW for free if downloaded the trial then set it up to play on a private server. However I do not recommend this because it is a highly addictive game with very poor graphics and corny plot-lines. I myself am a recovering WoW addict and I really can't say if you may experience problems yourself, just thought I'd let you know that it is not necessary to subscribe or pay anything for the core game. Of course anymore the first 60 lvls are boring and are rarely played, most folks are into the PvP aspect.

Welcome to OCC! Looks good, but I don't know about that Cooler Master PSU, anyone out there have some experience to lend on this? You probably only need 750-850W so far and you kinda forgot the mobo so maybe a lower price PSU could get you a 790FX board. Personally I love my Corsair TX-750 and have heard good things of PC Power and Cooling as well as Antec. I also wondered if you are planning on re-using your old case as the new components (especially the GPU) might not fit in there right. Anyway it looks like you've done a fair bit of reading up on what's good and I wish you the best of luck.

    Check Out This Spider

I will love him and pet him and squeeze him to pieces and call him George. I used to have another little friend. His name was George too, but, he don't move no more... Thanks RR I was looking for a new pet and this one doesn't bite back. But seriously... this thing is really real looking. A bit crude at the far ends of the settings, but you can actually make several different looking spiders. The user control needs work tho.... -_- Oh well! I'm gonna go play with him again.

    Gtx 295 Problems

Wellll My GPU and proc both squeal from time to time. OK alright the GPU almost always, but more so under a heavy load (only exception is 3dMark03 which just sounds comical and can't be a big load). Mainly I hear the proc squeal when I'm benching really high and I'm at the limit of my mobo's wattage. I asked my friend what it could be and he said it was the cheap capacitors "singing". You ever wanna hear your comp scream just run Linpack I kid you not . I doubt its your PSU, that is unless you have several hard drives in raid and or a bunch of other devices, though it does say that it sucks 289W: http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_gtx_295_us.html. Then again this is a relatively new card and as I re-call the 260/280 had more than their fair share of crap outs when they first came out. Check with nVidia to see what they suggest for troubleshooting before jumping on a new PSU is all I would say. Best of luck.
  24. My thoughts on XFX: They don't seem to care about their customers very much. It took them over a month to tell me the obvious things to try with my card. It turned out ok after all that time because by then the drivers were working better for my card and I had re-installed my card about 6 times. Just remember if you get the XFX and it acts up not to expect a timely response to your pleas for help.
