  1. Thanks for the replay. I've been also knocking around the idea of going all out and TEC'ing it using swiftech's tec blocks (already setup so less area for me to error) :nod: The ones I am thinking of are on the swiftnets.com website. One thing I would definitely be doing is taking the cover off the aux psu, removing that fan, making a bigger hold and putting a bigger fan on the outside in its place (aligning with the top of the case), so it go the ambient air from outside the case, or using a side 120mm fan spot in a case I have thrown around using.... http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx...N82E16811146043 The side fan location gives some space where no drives, boards, or anything would be. It was more for opinions from those that have experiance.
  2. Thanks for the quick reply. I imagine the temp difference in that review would be even lower with a good watercooling setup. It looks like someone doing stock speeds or a little overclock that wants something simple and quick to setup would benefit from the TT. You got me wondering what their rad is made from. One review did say they went with better quality parts rather than flimsy flashy looking components, such as a solid copper waterblock versus their acrylic waterblock cover that their last attempt had. I posted quite a long time ago about putting watercooling in a compact case. At the time I was looking at an XQpack, but have since found a much better candidate. That will be for another thread though

  4. Do the Dual Core Duo's have a convex shape to them? Been reading some posts on here such as the Apogee GT having an O Ring so it will get shape, and other people lapping the heatsink so it's truely flat. If the processor is flat, such as the E6850, would a simple lapping of the heatsink be recommended? Nothing too far into it to where it doesn't fit anymore but mainly to get some impurities off and get it a little more flat, then using arctic silver 5. Going to be a bit and I'll have to bump this thread once I do get the parts, but I plan to take pictures throughout the process, then get heat reports with both the stock processor fan for a base and the replacement fan. If lapped then I'll do a before and after with both fans as well. Javve

I know watercooling is very broad, so lets just say for comparison, a watercooling setup that runs $250 I was looking at watercooling but to get a system up and easier to transport, I have decided to hold off on watercooling for a bit. The case in question is a Lian Li PC-A05B that I plan to mod with extra fans and a vent on the side of the case for the cpu heatsink/fan. I know sometimes more CFM isn't always better, but just maybe in this case (no pun intended) it would help a it. The next question is, would it cool just as well as a basic (see above) watercooling setup? What is the estimated max speed I could overclock this processor with that setup without increasing the running temp 10 degreec C.? I know you all can only estimate unless there's someone out there that is using this heatsink with a similar processor? :confused: Where would be a good place to put extra fans (same fan that's replacing the cpu fan on the heatsink) and what direction for air flow would be optimal? Each hole drilled would use a generic fan grill for max airflow while protecting the fingers :cool: I was thinking 3 on top, and one in side plus a vent above it for the processor fan and replacing the stock rear 120mm Fan.   6. BTW, I would be using a swiftech apogee gt waterblock for cpu and mcw60 for vga. Once I have figured out what I'm going to use for sure, a sig would make things a lot easier :nod:

Would a swiftech 1/2" ID system using a single 120mm rad and the Swiftech MCP655 12 VDC Pump along with a 5.25 bay reservoir keep the system considerably cooler than a good (quiet) heatsink/fan?   8. From the sounds of things I may be better off doing all waterblocks w/out doing TEC. I know it is less involved for sure without having to worry about condensation for one. What is an example of a dual loop setup? I can't picture one in my head and not all pictures are the greatest and unless you know what's going on then some of it may not sink in either lol Definitally a beginner at Modding, but not at building TEC is ideal to me only because of the possibility of cooling below ambient temperatures. The downfall is it seems that the heat it creates would raise the ambient temperatures as it is. If I did decide to Waterblock everything, I would use the Apogee GT from swiftech.

  10. So scrap the chipset waterblock. Aux psu for TEC instead of running two psu's for the video cards (5.25 bay ones). Not planning on OC'ing the video cards just keep them cool. I read where the 8800GTX's get hot. Would I do just as good running two full block coolers for the GPU's and just TEC the processor? I know I can fit a triple Rad in the top, seen it done by UncleDavid218 in a Li... case that is real similar to the one I have planned to use. I could remove the two HD drive bays on the bottom, and fit the aux psu there. If I use just one TEC, which would be for the processor, the Enermax 1000W has been certified by swiftech as able to handle the wattage and current needed. The Enermax has 5 rails, so should run what I need. I could put a dual rad facing sideways on the bottom and have the fans pull in from the side opposite to the side the MB will sit. Would still involve removing both HD bays even if an Aux power supply wasn't used. Next post will show updated plans.
  11. Thanks for the info. Not just slim pickings there. The uber cooler is a little biiiiig lol. So no chipset fan in the loop, which means one less thing to have to hook up I know energy bills will be up there but I eventually plan to get a nice solar block setup when my wife and I get our own house. Hopefully the resident TEC guru will pop in with their 2 cents worth hehe. If you couldn't tell, I'm going for nice cooooool temps! I could put the triple rad on the side underneath or on top. I have seen both setups in a Lian Li case. This case is a little bit different and I like different. If I put the rad in the top then I could leave the drive bay cage in the back there, and have more room on the front for more toys. Looking at a display that goes in the 5.25 bay to display temps and fan speeds. Even shows a spectrum when you play music from Media Player or Winamp. I have things figured out if I do use the HDD adapter in a couple of 5.25 bay cases. Just a little bit tighter fit

  13. I'm looking at modding a system in about the next 6 months. I will provide links since it saves on loading on an image hosting site and having to deal with site copyright laws, length of post, etc. EDIT: (Links Removed, please see updated Post 07-18-2007) Of course there will be the dielectric grease, thermal grease, thermal adhesive grease for the ram heatsinks on video card, as well as the spray for the motherboard to protect from condensation. What would be better? I triple 120mm Rad setup or would I get the same effect from using three single 120mm Rad's, .... EDIT: going to use Triple Rad. Hehe I get to pick some brains with my first post :cool: Got the idea from having to watercool from the qx6800, and lot of thought and research.
