  1. Hi all, I have an AMD FX-55 its works fine; very stable, and wondered if I would be better off with an Opteron, the one I'm looking at is a 185 Opteron 'Denmark' I know the San Diego chips are the ones to look for but I don't think I'll be over-clocking it. any advice re this choice is most welcome. Oh and any recommendations re: 2Gb matched pair memory? Regards Lee
  2. Update: Turns out my Crucial Ballistix matched pair Memory was faulty - never heard of ballistix being faulty but there you go. running a standard PC3200 512mb crucial backup stick; system is running well now. Just have to wait for the replacements to arrive and then its sell on eBay time.
  3. Reelfiles: Thank you for posting your CD image but and its good news peoples... My PC room is in tatters but I'm a happy chappy because I've found my CD... It was in the paper shredder lol! It had fallen into the opening on the front, I'm a sod for stacking paperwork on top of things and in this case it was the shredder. Phew! I installed the drivers etc but It still didn't solve my problem so tonight I shall become 'THE FORMATTER' lol! If in doubt destroy data haha! A heart felt thanks to all the suggestions and kind offers, you have been more than generous with your advice and time, it is much appreciated. I'll download the online drivers too, and make a backup ISO of my CD. and maybe make an updated CD with the online drivers and back that up too lol! regards Lee
  4. Well I have now tried both non-HD and HD drivers and it still won't install it correctly.
  5. well I downloaded the drivers and in particular the audio drivers but the audio won't install. I have an exclamation mark next to Multimedia Audio Controller in Device Manager. The drivers installed and I rebooted but still a no go, also tried the right click and update drivers and it wouldn't update. I want to reformat but need a CD for the drivers before I do. I'll just have to buy one from DFI if they will sell me one. To be honest I can't ever remember the audio being Realtek! As I remember the audio is Karajan so wouldn't that be part of Nvidia? Anyway thanks for the help guys
  6. I'm gonna rip the house to pieces later lol! but in the meantime I'll pop over to the sites radodrill mentioned. To infamy and beyond...
  7. yes they are, @ DFI.com.tw but not the full compliment, and in most instances they are updates not full drivers. I have also found the drivers from the CD's tend to work better.
  8. Hi all, the poltergeists have been busy in my house, they have taken my DFI nF4 SLI DR install CD . I've looked everywhere for it... I'm totally baffled  as to where its gone. Does anyone have an old CD they don't use or can make a ISO of the CD for me? Please! please! please! Does anyone live local to me, that has a DFI nF4 SLI DR?
  9. Vista will boot but BSOD appears soon thereafter sometimes after a few seconds other times after a couple of minutes or so! Vista will boot in to Safe Mode and seems fairly stable (No BSOD, as yet!).
  10. thanks for the info guys, another reason for the change to AM2 is the price diff re the CPU's 939s seem to be a lot more costly and a lot rarer to find AM2's seem to be everywhere. Sod it I deserve a nf590 I'm a good person I don't go around killing kittens, I do try to blow my neighbours nuts haha! oops left the 'up' out lol! right thats it now to search for the best deal...
  11. Yo, I want SLI... two BFG 8800 GTS OC2 320's and if I can explode the neighbours nuts that would be a definite bonus haha! I noticed the LanParty NF590 is the only one that has 2 x 16x PCI-E so I think that has made my mind up. As for overclocking, buying a DFI and not overclocking is like buying an R1 and sticking to the speed limits... its almost unethical, so I think overclocking is a given. I've heard the equivalent ASUS board is faster but I think DFI make better quality boards. I'm surprised how many companies in the uk DON'T sell DFI, and the majority of the e-tailers don't list DFI in there search engines... Why! :eek2: Maybe DFI is an American thing.
  12. Hi all, I'm looking at changing my DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR 939 board for an AM2 board and would like some input. I would like to stay with DFI if possible but if there is a better board by a different manufacturer I would have a look at them. Cheers Lee
  13. Hi all, I have a mate with a few issues! He's running the following system: DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+ (Socket 939) OCZ GameXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply Sapphire ATI Radeon X1900 GT 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) GeIL 2GB (4x512MB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS2.5 Samsung SpinPoint P SP2504C 250GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM Western Digital WD1200BB Caviar 120GB 7200RPM ATA/100 2MB Cache – OEM Maxtor 320GB External HDD LG GSA-4163B Super Multi DVD Burner Akasa AK-ZEN-01-BK Zen Black Case Windows XP SP2 All updates He set a primary partition to Install Vista (Ultimate ED 32 Bit) and go for a dual boot with XP. Unfortunately his system keeps crashing when Vista Boots up, with the following error: IRQ ARB: ACPI BIOS does not contain an IRQ for the device in PCI slot 11, function 0, Please contact Blah, blah, blah. Same for PCI slots 12, 13 and 14. Looking in device manager the following occupy slots 11 and 14: 11: NVidia nForce PCI system Management 14: NVidia nForce4 Parallel ATA Controller BTW, he is planning on replacing the old WD PATA HDD he has for another Samsung Spinpoint SATA 250 GB. Any pointers any one has would be fantastic. Also ADMINS his login for this forum is infiltr8 but for whatever reason he doesn't appear able to post. If you can sort this as well thats also brill. Thanks all.
  14. Hi all I'm looking to buy a new CPU and would like some input and advice, if you don't mind? So which is the best CPU to buy for this Motherboard at the moment? Running XP Pro 32bit also going to put Linux on and may take a look at vista but waiting a while until the hardware/software catch it up. Cheers
