  1. Yesterday night I have installed a Zalman fan FB165(80mm) in front of the nf4 chipset. After 4 hours playing WOW chipset temperature dropped from 63°C to 44°C. I still not believe it So no need to replace HSF !
  2. Is it possible to remove HSF with the mobo in the PC ?
  3. Smart Guardian (and BIOS too) shows the chipset temperature around 63°C (full load). I do not know the temperature specification for the chipset but reading previous 50-55°C sounds good. The chipset fan is @100% after 40°C. What is the right voltage supply for the chipset ? The system is not overclocked. The area around the CPU is fresh, not the same for the chipset because close to it is installed a long video card (ATI X1800). What I can do before to replace the chipset fan ?
  4. No answers from experts so I'm still trying to solve the issue by myself. Too many ppl is having a lot of troubles with mobo based on nf4, and reading several forum I can not see a solution. Some time ago I resolved some compatibilty issue on my epox with nf2 and USB, so yesterday night I have installed an additional USB PCI card and disabled USB in the Bios. I have also installed an USB Hub. It seems that mouse is working better, that is preciser and faster. After that I tested my nf4 system without freezes. Obviously is too early to say victory I need more time to verify (see previous post). Could be freeze issue related in some way to USB management by mobo ?????? Another question: in terms of absorbed power what is the impact disabling USB ports and adding an USB PCI card. Do I save power ? If the problem is the absorbed power it means that my PSU Enermax NoiseTaker EG495AX-VE485watt is not reliable..... pls. i need your opinion. Thanks in advance
  5. Hello again, I'm getting confused now!! I still need your support. After nvidia SW IDE drivers uninstallation mt rig worked fine for 3 days. No freeze at all. But now freezing is back and it was a pain !!! Just one freeze after 10 min working, and after the reboot the rig works fine for many hours! Any suggestion ? I'm reading a lot of similar post around the web and many ppl is having the same trouble, more evident with dual core processor.
  6. hello, i have disinstalled the nVidia SW IDE drivers and the random crash is disappeared. System still under verification. So the source of instability could be the nvidia drivers. Anyone know this issue ? cya mArCo
  7. Hello Technohydra, I've modify bios accordingly. Memtest and Prime95 passed with success. Freezing problem still present. Reading many posts I'm convinced that the problem is the compatibility between nF4 chipset and the Sapphire X1800XT. And there is not a solution. I'm asking for a video card change (to nVidia) and on Friday I'll return the PC to the shop (they want to test it). Anyway thanks for you kind support! Also try running the data drive strength at lvl 3(75%). Here below I summarize answers to your questions: - RAM Type (fitted in orange slots) VDATA MEMORY EXPERT DDR400(3) 2 x 1Gx16 MDGV6G3I4750B1E53 S/N 615TR (VDNGC1A16) Setting in bios default configuration. Now I'm trying to run with all value=AUTO (need time to test) - Test on memory is it suitable to run memtest86+ under BIOS? or Better under Winxp? I'll perform test with following programs: -> superPI -> memtest as suggested by TechnoHydra I'll disconnect additional hard disks etc. Processor - Venice 3500+ (default freq/core) - Floppy drive connector above top PCI-E slot: After a check I discovered that was not connected to the PSU. The M.B. operating manual suggest to connect it for better stability in SLI mode. Anyway I connected it but after the reboot the problem is still present as bwfore: the pc loads WinXp with success, internet connection ok, running World of Warcraft after 10/15 min PC crashed again. I rebooted it and worked fine for more than 4 hours. Crazy ! It seems that some component need time to stabilize itself. - PSU Enermax Noisetaker 485W 30 life hours

  10. of course Technohydra. I'll post the p/n. thank you for help. davidhammock200 This RAM was not my choice.. Processor/M.B./RAM was a present. In case that RAM is the problem i'll try to have a replacement with another RAM manufacturer obviously adding money. But before it i would like to understand if the system instability is caused by RAM. Could be reasonable to switch DIMM position (i'm not speaking abt orange or yellow slot) ?. And also to try with 1GB only ?
  11. Thanks Technohydra for your answer. This is my first DFI M.B., before I used Abit, Epox, Asus. RAM settings are "default". I'll carry out more tests on RAM. Can I also try to relax memory timings or something other suggestion? Other memory settings, even if not for V-Data can help ?
  12. thanks Fury for your prompt answer. If I understand well it could depend on USB port on M.B. Can i move the USB transmitter on the USB Hub ? Is it suitable ? If not, if i'll disable any usb legacy keyboard/mouse support in the bios can I still use my wireless usb / mouse ?
  13. I have one ANNOYING bug. Sometimes the PC just freezes within 10-20 min from the boot, Usually when I' playing 3D games. When it freezes, it either just "freezes" (nothing else happens). The funny thing is that after the re-boot the PC work fine for 4/5 hours still using 3d games. I tried to update the bios (last official rev.), to add the 4p/8p adaptor for processor supply, to re-install the nforce4 divers (now i'm running a remix suitable for compatibility). Another step was to install the ATI drivers called ATI_Drivers_nforce4_fix). I have also tested the RAM with memtest under Windows but everything seems ok. A friend of mine suggesting me to change the DIMMs. I think that before that i can switch the DIMM position. And also to test 1 DIMM x time. I would like to o.c. this PC but before i have to solve this damned bug. Any idea? Thank in advance for your answers.
